Besides my money wasted, Prince's estate money is wasted ! They put so much into this opening. Wasn't Prince a good neighbor and this is how the repay ? Now how's the tax bill going to get paid
I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

I hate to say this, but, in all honesty, Paisley Park themselves are to blame for all this in being TOO hasty in everything and so eager to cash in on their deceased boss, without the final OFFICIAL approval from the City Council first. Paisley Park, like their deceased boss, live in their own world with no regard to officialdom or laws or anything!! They are basically laws unto themselves!! They should be turning around and refunding everyone for everything!!! Also, just like their deceased boss, they are not experts at business and organization!!! Everything was all TOO rushed!!!

In the real world, you cant just build an extension on your home or even build a new home without submitting plans and blueprints to local councils FIRST and then waiting for their approval before you can go ahead(Not sure about the US, but here in the UK this is what has to happen BY LAW). It seems as though Paisley Park were so delusional that didnt feel they had to do anything like that!! You cant just go ahead and do what u like, when u like, where u like, how u like and with who u like in the REAL WORLD!!!

Sadly this! Of course I very much feel for the people who payed for airfare, hotels, the actual ticket etc - I have been in the same postion myself more than once when Prince shows were cancelled.

Now is not the time for anyone to come out with "I told you so". I feel really sorry for people who got tickets and booked non-refundable travel.

The bottom line is, the Estate was way too hasty. No tickets should have been on sale until everything was approved by the council.

Sorry, but that's not how it works. Just because the Mayor likes the idea doesn't mean it shouldn't go through the proper channels of governance. They should never have sold tickets before verifying approval.

Rather than rushing this, which they clearly have done, they should have focused on releasing music to generate revenue.

Chanhassen city council should have been better prepared earlier, they have known about the planned opening of Paisley Park since at least the middle of August.

Bremer Trust should have held off on selling tickets until final approval from the city was in place.

This. Though I still think they wouldn't have sold tickets if they thought there was a chance this wouldn't be approved. What has the city council been doing since this was first announced back in August?

Is there any chance that it will open by October 12-14 when rhe majority of us planned to be in Minneapolis for the tribute? I genuinely feel for those that planned to be there on the 6th, but not habing it open when thousands of fans are there for the tribute will be sad. What I don't understand is that Prince had paid tours of Paisley Park and thousands of fans there all the time. Why do they need special permission from the counsel to continue using Paisley the same way it was used before?

Hastily thought out ideas with no real process or consideration of the practicalities.

Tickets sold for something not set in stone.

Delayed launch date, no comments from the people in question regarding this.

Now THIS is a true Prince tribute!!!

Man, how I miss the days of rumours, albums never happening and all the rest..... sad

So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

I'm sorry for the fans who bought tix for the tour. Hope those who are traveling from out of state can still make their trip to MN worthwhile. If anything, they can watch the undefeated Vikings play in their new stadium, a trip to First Avenue and Mall of America.

How is it that the city council didn't have a list of demands and/or questions they needed answered before they would approve this? It's not like this is something they just found out about yesterday. Why are all these questions about traffic and pedestrian safety just coming up now?

If I remember correctly I thought council approved the plan and requested some things to be changed around, like the entrances and such. PP did that.

This is a bunch of bull. The city had to have gave the go ahead or this wouldn't have ever proceeded this far.

Someone needs to find the city council minutes on their last few meetings I believe they gave PP the go ahead to proceed.

It's not the Estates fault, it's the City's fault for giving them the go ahead to begin with. If I have time today I'll try to do some research on it. Right now I'm getting ready to leave for work, but will see what I can do

No I don't think we can let the city off the hook. The fact that the city council meeting was only a couple days before scheduled opeining always suggested to me it was more of a formality. I certainly didn't expect city council members to have all these questions just a couple days before opening. What have they been doing the past month and a half? How did the city ever approve this timeline in the first place? The mayor put out a press release the same day as the estate did. So clearly the mayor at least knew what their timeline was. Why didn't he tell the Estate the timeline was too aggressive and they should plan for opening in 2017? Why didn't the city council have a list of demands/questions for the Estate/Graceland to satisfy rather than bringing them all up 2 days before scheduled opening and after tickets had already gone on sale? One almost gets the feeling this is a power play by the city council to show they're not just a rubber stamp. The problem is it has real impacts to those who already purchased tickets.

Graceland said they drastically cut back the number of tickets they were selling and reduced hours of operation as well. They weren't even selling tickets past December 31. I think the city could have conditionally approved it and used these 3 months to study traffic impacts. And all the complaints about pedestrian safety are BS. People have been coming to PP since April 21 and there haven't been any incidents or issues of pedestrian safety. The number of people milling around the fence has gradually decreased since April 21 and with the fence cleared pretty much no one is walking around there any more as there is nothing to see. This was the mayor's argument - that the city has been able to handle things just fine the past 6 months.

Of course the Estate and Graceland aren't totally blameless but I think the mayor and the city messed up by not putting the breaks on this before it was ever announced.

There is no way they would be doing all this work, selling tickets and hiring staff if they thought the opening date was in jeopardy. Since the mayor was in favor of this moving forward I put the blame on him. He must have given the Estate the impression this was good to go. When the estate first came to the mayor/city he should have put the breaks on it then. It shouldn't be happening 2 days before PP is supposed to open.

The September minutes and information I had read on here http://chanhassen.granicu...ta_id=4554 suggested that nothing was set in stone and that safety to date was still a major concern. I think the real issue was the lack of communication between the Council and Graceland who simply put the cart before the horse.

This seems very odd.

Why does it need to be re-zoned? For a tax break presuably? I read something else that Graceland are predicting 600,000 visitors a year? They didn't get even half that when Prince was alive. Now he's dead visitor numbers are going to quadruple? His albums didn't even sell 600,000 copies... If it's being re-zoned as a tourist destination and expecting over half a million people a year (not a chance) where does that leavePP continuing to function as a recording studio.

I am FUMING about this! I planned my trip from Boston. I ought a VIP ticket for Oct 13, a non-refundable flight and 2 nights hotel. Aside from the fact I'm a lifelong fan who was so looking forward to this, their decision is stupid and outrageous, and the planning absolutely incompetent. I emailed the Mayor and all the stupid city council members, who need to feel important.

I run a construction business, and deal with local governments on a daily basis. Unfortunately, in municipalities, the right hand usually doesn't know what the left hand is doing. So the Mayor could have been on board, but the council members can basically do whatever they want to do, within the law. The Mayor and the councilors may not even get along. We don't know. But, as I read the facts, the responsibility to dot all the Is and cross all the Ts, if anyone wants to assign it, should be on the company wanting the museum designation. All of the legal issues should have been addressed before one ticket was sold. Yes, they could have assembled the business plan, but that would have been it. I had posted here IIRC that they should have waited a year to open the place. I know they need money (and I assume that is why the siblings have formed their own businesses - to make money personally while the Estate is in chaos) but this is another major example of a management team failure (the tribute concert being the other).
