new jersey? No, West Side as in West Side story--Columbus Avenue, Lincoln Center area. But yeah, isn't the rest of the USA just the west side of NYC? j/k. When I lived in Chicago I swear most of the people in northern Illinois would say they're from Chicago. When you pressed them, they'd say, "Oh well, I'm about an hour outside the city." That's not Chicago! And Jersey is not New York.

That's not Chicago! And Jersey is not New York. you lve by lincoln? i hate you. has you or family been there forever, or is ya'll just rich? Neither. I don't have any family east of the Mississippi. I have worked in non-profits for 9 years, and have significant graduate school loans so I'm definitely NOT rich and neither are my parents (my dad's a farmer)! I just got really, really lucky (my story copied from another thread): I used to have a rent stabilized apartment on the east side and my landlord filed a petition with the City to demolish it. So my friend (an attorney) negotiated a deal with the landlord that I would gladly move (as opposed to staying put and contesting the demolition, which I could have done) if landlord made it worth my while to move. After 13 months of negotiations, I got moved to a nicer apartment also owned by the landlord, in a better neighborhood/location and landlord paid for the move. My rent went up by about 30% per month (b/c this apartment isn't stabilized), but landlord also paid me that difference for 72 months (6 years). I was just hoping for him to cover moving expenses and a broker's fee for me to find my own place, so I really lucked out. There is no way I could afford the rent for this apartment if I didn't have that extra money from the landlord. I just withdraw the difference from my savings account every month. The only thing that sucks is that I had to pay taxes on it and so instead of having enough for 6 years, I now only have enough for about 2 more years (I've already lived in this place almost a year). I really love my apartment and don't want to move, but the reality is unless I get a significantly higher paying job (or start dating someone who moves in with me) I will have to move in a year or two. So I will stay here at least another year and then probably move...that way I'll still have a little money left over.

I never said Jersey people pretend they're from NYC. I said my experience in Chicago was that a lot of people claimed to be from the city (Chicago) and weren't. I grew up in Iowa, but I identify more with New Yorkers than Iowans. It's not that serious.

Hey fellow New Yorkers!!!
I just got back from an incredible boat party with some other New York Orgers. We get 2gether quite often, but this was probably the best get 2gether that we've had so far. I feel for anyone that missed it. The scenery was beautiful and then 2 add the best band in NYC was the cherry. Anyway...check out what y'all missed. [Edited 9/19/08 10:35am] Peace&BeWild

It was some of the most fun I've had in a minute. All the other NYer's here on the org need to come hang with us some time! I'd love to meet all of you someday soon I'm not a fan of "old Prince". Clint! Didn't I ask you to please not post the photos of me on the Org?! Could you take them off the Org, please? (And Housequake if you've put them there.)
This is why I don't let people take my photo! [Before pics are posted, it's best to get the "okay" from everyone. Some people don't want their pics posted and you have to respect that, no matter what the reason. Something to consider folks - luv4u]
