Unfinished Song - 'No Excuses'

Okay, here's something I did last year. Its called 'No Excuses'.

I'd be lying if I said it was all me. My cousin Simon and friend Darren supplied the guitars. I played all the keyboards, programmed the percussion, produced, arranged and mixed it.

I wrote the lyrics and co-wrote the music. Actually, the music is a bit of a no-brainer, I think there's only eight chords in the whole thing.

Not all of the work is mine. As well as creating my own percussion and instrumentation, I also used public domain drum loops, sound effects and string samples.

Here's the lyrics (we never finished it, so there's no vocals on it).

No Excuses

So the world don't revolve around your pretty face,
Telling tales never fails to put me in my place,
Everywhere that I go, I get a second look,
I'm the talk of the town, you must have wrote a book,

Chorus

Maybe there's no solution,
I won't have restitution,
I don't know why you do this,
Baby, there's no excuses,

So a wink and a smile won't pay your bills no more,
You've been lying on your back for so long, your lower than the floor,
Everybody that I meet thinks the sun shines out your ass,
But your as fake as your tan and as real as plastic grass,

Chorus

Maybe there's no solution,
I won't have restitution,
I don't know why you do this,
Baby, there's no excuses,

Maybe there's no solution,
I won't have restitution,
I don't know why you do this,
Baby, there's no excuses.

© 2003, Justin I'Onn, Simon Mann, Darren Sargent

Its supposed to sound cheesy, loopy, plastic and poppy. The chorus sounds like the Rolling Stones, but the rest of it sounds a bit like the B-52s.

I've uploaded it in a zip file and you can download it by clicking here: http://www.geocities.com/...onn/ne.zip

biggrin Hey Justin, hows it goin? I stole your idea for my sig... giggle But I guess we stole it from Prince... anyway...

This sounds pretty cool. Wish I could hear the vocals though. It sounds very well arranged, so good job on that. Good intro/outro ideas. Is it me or are the chords in the intro kinda Nirvana sounding? I'm hearing Nirvana in everyone's music today, lol. Not when the keys come in though... that does sound Stonesy like you said.

This sounds like it could be in the background of a movie party scene. music

I thought it sounded more like the Monkees. I wish we'd recorded the vocals. sad I'm having a bit of a meeting tomorrow about all the music we've left undone.

There is another track online at Garageband.com and it sounds nothing like this one.

If anybody wants to stream it, its here: http://www.garageband.com...aSnYFK-Y20

Its like a cross between disco, funk-soul and techno.

Does anybody else here use Garageband.com or do you all use that Soundclick thing?
