Make sure your sound board has ASIO support. Many soundblaster boards don't have it out of the box though, but try to search the internet for ASIO drivers for your card. They might still be available somewhere.
If all fails, try switching to directX mode. This helped me getting rid of (most) audio sync problems with my crappy on board sound chip.

take a look in options/audio setup & see how much memory you have per channel & also run the asio test on the same menu. Thats should fix the problem. Of course reinstalling cubase & your soundcard drivers can help too.

Soundblaster Platinum should have an ASIO 2 driver, as far as I remember. you need to choose this driver in the device setup in Cubase. not the Multimedia driver, but the one that came with Sound Blaster.

Also, if it still has delay, make sure you choose Direct monitoring, that way you'll hear the input of the sound card while you record, and won't have ANY delay.

Some sound cards have the option of choosing buffer size. I don't know if Sound Blaster have that option, but if it does, the lower the buffer size, the less delay you'll have. but it lowers it's performance too, so try and balance between those two.
