the tone at the end of computer blue...

another one of those "how did he do it" threads, but I've never met anyone who knows: that swirly distorted sound, almost sounds like some filter has been used. Anyone?

I understand it's a Boss flanger pedal (not sure what type) set to feedback.

Yeah shove the guitar right in front of the amp with the flange on it is very cool. Eddie Van Halen does this as well on Pretty Woman. A phaser pedal gives a nice variation as well.

My old chorus pedal did it. Distortion and chorus/flange, in front of the guitar with the strings muted.

I'll try that, I've just bought a Boss ME-50, which as a good selection of choruses. It sounds like the chorus is before the distortion in the effects chain, mind.

Makes sense if he's overdriving the amp to get feedback.
