So it's going to be a site that hosts any style music, of any calibre, with an online community, and sells products to help fund the site?

How about calling it Soundclick.com?

Without a direction or a niche, you are now aligning yourselves with every other free indie mp3 site out there, which then loses any focus you might have had previously.

When it was directed, you might have lost potential visitors, but you gained credit because you were focusing on a niche market that had been forgotten my most large music sites. By opening up the scope, you are now a tiny fish in a big pond.

I one hundred percent agree with Otan. And besides, the 'NFO' as it was 'before' did not predominantly focus on funk. Funk was just the emphasis, or the niche attraction that no other website is doing. Listen to some early funkadelic/very early Parliament and tell me whether some of those songs were honestly worthy of being performed by a band with 'funk' in the title.

C'est la vie

U don't think we could reach more people by being called Groove Defenders or Underground Sounds? Quite a few people would ask me, "Do I have to be funky to be in the NFO?" Heck, I wasn't sure if I was funky enough, and I still don't think I am.

lol

Chile, that's what i mean, put the hate down and pick the mic up. Dont hate on urself.

Now, anyway...We still need 2 structure what once was because as a group we will be stronger force than individually trying 2 come up with something on our own.

Well isn't this interesting. All a learning process and that's how ya take it. Nothing's lost. Contiinue.

V has a good point about the 'funk' label. Although it may have started out focused on the funk, it wasn't all about the funk...it's a broader genre.

And this time, instead of just making music and giving it away to the people, how about also throwing up 30 - 60 second snippets targeting studios, tv/film production and advertising agencies... to buy a tune for less than a record company or big name artist would charge. I see this as becoming a huge business. Awe, this stuff shouldn't even be in a forum. But I give it freely...2 U.

Whatever...don't lose the flow.

New Names:

The Download Society...gotta say...love that name.
New.Wav Productions
Vox Populi Productions (Voice of the people)
D2D Productions (Drag2Disc)
One-Stop

oh stop Red. They'll find it.

This is a good thing. Keep On Truckin' guys. But for cryingoutloud...IF you are going to continue this, ya gotta get a decent server. Can't play with something nebulous. I know this part of it takes gooey, but a really good product will sell itself in the end. Just keep going.

Best,

I still like "the purple underground". You get the Prince reference, no funk label, and you know we're not in cahoots with some record conglomerate. That whole "nu-whatever" reminds me of how the called Limp Bizkit "nu-metal" or something.

We are also trying to get away from Prince references, I think. Tim/NFO correct me if I'm wrong. I think we might go with Underground Sounds.

Keep the ideas and input coming. I don't like Nu either, so I'm glad you mentioned that.

Peace,

FREE WORLD MUSIC COLLECTIVE or WORLD MUSIC COLLECTIVE

I do like this, however we run the risk of sounding like it's about World Music, ie Celtic, Brazilian, Reggea (or however that is spelled, lol).

Free Music Collective maybe...

not for world music per se. just for the world at large.

I like Tal's suggestions. Albeit, peeps might think it's free music from the band Soundgarden. But the idea is right. Endless variety, vibrant with all colors, open & airy, alive, audio sunshine, and tended to with loving care. A place to wander and listen. Free for the picking.

Or if U like the word 'underground' - maybe Underground Sound Garden or replace the word 'free' with maybe 'liberation'. Sound Garden Liberation.

It's good Tal. My pick to date.

I LOVE THAT!

Its like saying music that is allowed to see the light of day. Thats what free range poultry can do. Supposedly they are not confined to cages, they can go out of the barns and take walks.

I googled it once. I means they have access, so it could be a few hours a day, it could be that the barn door is open. I'll try to find the link. Do you have one?

Free Range is alright

Groove Defenders is alright

Drag to Disc Records (cool Red)

Free Funk

I don't know whether it should be named like a label or like a band?

Vina's correct. Free range chickens have 'freedom of range', whereas their counterparts, the battery-hens, are confined to cages barely bigger than their own bodies. It's believed that the latter are powered by batteries.

'Free range' could have two meanings also, in terms of the word range. As in outreach, or variety.

Come2thePark (no name really, just an invite)

Garden
Groove Garden
Funk Guarden

Funk
Funk Kitchen (a place where the ideas are baked)
Funkshunjunction
Funktionjunction (dif sp)
New Funk Refuge
New Funk Reframation (sp?)
Funk Guarden
New Funk Guarden
