The New Name

Lets start a fresh thread on this, and please, no jokes.

The community and project formerly known as The New Funk Order needs a new name.

Please note: I would like to remove Funk from the title so it is clear that we welcome all genres of music.

Milty suggested: Groove Defenders

Tal suggested Free Music Collective

Taureau's idea: Free Range Music

As long as it's not "New Funk Revolution" or "New Funk Order", it's cool with me.

So it's going to be a site that hosts any style music, of any calibre, with an online community, and sells products to help fund the site?

How about calling it Soundclick.com?

Without a direction or a niche, you are now aligning yourselves with every other free indie mp3 site out there, which then loses any focus you might have had previously.

When it was directed, you might have lost potential visitors, but you gained credit because you were focusing on a niche market that had been forgotten my most large music sites. By opening up the scope, you are now a tiny fish in a big pond.

But it does! We do not only have Funk, so the title is misleading anyway.

Maybe the difference is that we put out compilation projects? And everyone offers at LEAST 1 mp3 for free. You don't have to make your mp3s downloadable at Soundclick AND you don't have to sign up to download the tracks.

That is an excellent point. Funk does incoporate a lot of styles though. I like to think Funk is like Jazz, but you can dance too it. Did you ever try to dance to John Coltrane? I got a pretty funny video of that somewhere, I'll have to share.

Unlike jazz, it's often more lyrical as well.

Vina, I see where you're coming from though. I'd still like to see a BOLD name with or without the word funk. I agree that all people are welcome. It's the melting pot that makes a good stew.

Perhaps every six months, there is a new genre compilation album?

Maybe we can come up with something with the same initials. I love what you did too and would look awesome on a T-shirt/album cover.

I have been reading the posts, and Flashpointe has contacted me, and I will not be supporting the "new" project either. Please remove my songs from the "new" project. That was wrong of you, NFO whoever you are, to post what you did. I was there on NPGMC, and I read what you said about Dodson. JD is a cool cat, and is only out to help you all, but this is the last straw for me.

I will be joining Jason on his new site.

I do like this, however we run the risk of sounding like it's about World Music, ie Celtic, Brazilian, Reggea (or however that is spelled, lol).

Free Music Collective maybe...

Cool, but I think we have to imply music somehow. I thought of Underground Sounds. I think when the message board goes back up we can create a poll and have people vote and see what happens. Maybe.

Digital Music Network, its quite a widely used term for sites offering free mp3s. Perhaps something incorporating that. smile

Well isn't this interesting. All a learning process and that's how ya take it. Nothing's lost. Contiinue.

V has a good point about the 'funk' label. Although it may have started out focused on the funk, it wasn't all about the funk...it's a broader genre.

And this time, instead of just making music and giving it away to the people, how about also throwing up 30 - 60 second snippets targeting studios, tv/film production and advertising agencies... to buy a tune for less than a record company or big name artist would charge. I see this as becoming a huge business. Awe, this stuff shouldn't even be in a forum. But I give it freely...2 U.

Whatever...don't lose the flow.

New Names:

The Download Society...gotta say...love that name.
New.Wav Productions
Vox Populi Productions (Voice of the people)
D2D Productions (Drag2Disc)
One-Stop

oh stop Red. They'll find it.

This is a good thing. Keep On Truckin' guys. But for cryingoutloud...IF you are going to continue this, ya gotta get a decent server. Can't play with something nebulous. I know this part of it takes gooey, but a really good product will sell itself in the end. Just keep going.

Best,

Red, Thank You! worship That is the absolute BEST reaction to all this. Because you know what? NOBODY knows what happened except for me, Jason and NFO. A few others saw the thread that started this whole mess over at npgmc, which has since been edited, BUT I tried to mediate the situation and found that it was impossible.

Because even though NFO apologized for attacking Jason in a series of extensive and leading posts, he still felt the way that started it all. And Jason, could not trust him anymore because NFO did it in an "anonymous" way with yamomma's user name over at npgmc. Anyway, I kept going back and forth between them on the phone, trying to reach a compromise, geting migraines, and I could see it wasn't going to happen. Trust was broken.

And even though I don't quite feel comfortable with NFO anymore, I felt it was best to keep the community in tact and just change the name. We were just going to shut it all down and start from scratch, but in the end I couldn't do that, because this community is bigger than any personal disagreements we may have.
