Help a guitar student learn some funk! My 14 year old daughter has been playing guitar for a few years and has recently discovered funk. She wants to make a CD of about 10 songs to take to her teacher so they can figger 'em out together. I'm looking for recommendations of funky songs that both sound good in general and are fun and interesting to play from the perspective of a guitarist.
(BTW, she has a 4-track recorder so she can do rhythm and lead, and there's a keyboard with drum effects and a beginning bass player in the house.) Thanks for your suggestions! *****************************************

The site looks really useful (for my son, a bassist and pianist, as well). I didn't see any specifically recommended songs, however... Any ideas? *****************************************

For one-line funk riffs, start with Sly Stone's "Thank You Falettin Me Be Mice Elf"
For an easy song to just play a single chord over, try Prince's "Controversy" For a two-chord funk song, check out "Flashlight" by Parliament Funkadelic. www.funkmusician.com/guitar.html The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Thanks. The guitar page is very primitive in it's educational value. I would definitely urge you to check out Frank's information as well; where I can make it easy to see and make pretty sounds, Frank shows you how to apply this knowledge in an educated fashion.
And stuff. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Moderator | Awe just make her go strait into Larry Graham's "Hair"
shouldn't be that hard, right? Just kidding. I forgot all about otan's demo pages. That's some cool stuff you got there! All Rights Reserved. |

I did yesterday (after looking at some of your previous entries), and it's just what my daughter is looking for. She's compiling a list over Xmas break based on your recommended players page. Thanks and happy holidays. *****************************************
