Guitar 'similar' to the Cloud ??

Can anyone recommend a guitar brand/style that is similar to the cloud? By this I mean pick ups, action, even size of fretboard etc.

Haven't played guitar for years but after a week of soundchecks, concerts and aftershows in OZ i have the itch back!!

Not really wanting the cloud from NPGMC for reasons we know but If anyone had some good recommendations I'm all ears!

I'm afraid there isn't. The Cloud is the only guitar I know of with a shorter Les Paul type scale length AND a maple fingerboard. While the pickups and the maple body add a lot to the tone, they can be found or installed on other guitars. However, this unique combination is found on no other guitar as far as I know.

Anyone else care to comment?

It seems a Les Paul might be the go...I do like their sound I must admit.

I use the Les Paul and maybe at times it sounds close to the cloud of Prince, but it's not something I bother about as I'm just working on my own sound. There are several threads dedicated to the cloud in this forum that you might want to check out if you're really trying to get the sound. If it's just the shape you're looking for then maybe a Les Paul or even a Tanglewood, then just squint your eyes.

I'm no "guitar expert" but it seems that our little purple friend also uses a telecaster.

If he uses the Cloud and the Tele, maybe that would be the place to start.

Yeah I'm thinking of picking up a tele...they have a nice sound. I actually had a play of a squire tele (fender copy) and was quite impressed - not exactly a true tele but damn close, and for a fifth of the price it's worth looking at.

Make sure to get one with a maple fingerboard, they sound funkier. (I have both and the rosewood fingerboard is great for blues but less funky)

New answer to an old topic: theer's aGibson calles (I think) L6 that ws made in the 70s. It has an all maple body, maple neck and fingerboard, neck-through body design. Load it with some EMG's and I'll bet you'd come pretty close. BTW: guess who played one? Santana!

hey, lately he's been using a standard fender stratocaster, and it sounds the same to me...it's the fingers man...and the genius mind that controls the fingers...

I've seen Miko Weaver and his band perform with a Parker Fly Deluxe a couple of times here in Rotterdam. His tone, as you probably know, is very similar to Prince's. With the Parker I thought he sounded very much like Prince with the Cloud as opposed to Prince with Tele. I don't know if Miko customized his Parker with different pick-ups because the Parker Fly Deluxe comes with active Seymour Duncan pick-ups and Prince uses active EMG pick-ups on his Cloud. In any case they sounded almost exactly alike.
