Does any1 know where I can find a Talkbox

Hi, I really want a talkbox like what Roger used. Can any1 help as I have found no info on where 2 find 1 @ all. I want 1 which will sound like Roger's or Teddy Riley's.

I have looked on the Internet but they only sell or give information about Vocoders. These instruments r quite different.

Will I be able 2 buy 1 in the UK?

I know of two different types.

The Talkbox (I think?) uses the old plastic tube into your mouth, pumping the sound at a high volume, and you then have your mouth on a mic - that's the Roger/Zapp/Frampton method.

It's still in production, finding one at a music store is easy. There's also a few web sites that show you how to MAKE one. Looks very easy, I'm just too lazy to actually try... it just requires a small practice amp, the plastic tubing, a lot of pillows to muffle the amp sound, and voila. Of course, that probably doesn't work too well on the stage.

Then there's the vocoder, that takes the instrument signal and the microphone signal and filters them together. They're on ebay for somewhere between $300 and $500.

The Digitech Talker is a cheapo version of it. The mic goes into the box, as does the line from the instrument. I played with a bass player that used it and I was blown away.

Digitech discontinued making the Talker, and instead it's a part of their big pedalboard. You can still find the Talker on ebay, usually around $150.

If you want your talk box to come to you rather than the other way round, go to Piedog and do a search for 'talk box'. You get both the Danelectro and the Dunlop...the latter is what Frampton etc are supposed to have used (i think).

Anyway, Piedog are cool. I got a harmonica from them no worries.

oh yeah these talk boxes would be designed for guitars in mind, but i dunno maybe you can use keyboard

Thanx!. I live in the UK so I don't know if I would b able 2 find 1 in the music stores over there.

I want the 1st one which u mentioned Otan which has the plastic tube. Does any1 know a freeware program that can emulate a talkbox?. I would prefer the real thing but I read that the 1s Roger & Teddy Riley use r custom made.

Can any1 describe in detail how the talkbox works?, if so that would b cool.

Thanx smile

Go here...

Thanx!. I'm really lookin 4 the 1 which is a keyboard etc.
I listen 2 some samples on the talkbox faq & they r kinda similar but I want 2 the 1 which Roger used as it had such a cool sound.

The guitar 1 sounds cool 2 aswell but again, the keyboard 1 is the 1 I want.

nah i would assume you plug your instrument into the box (said the bishop to the actress) and then the box into the amp.

I dunno if you can get keyboards with them built in...sounds a bit stoopid to me, unless theyre realy expensive. i could be wrong though!

I think u can. As I said Roger & Teddy Riley had them custom made. I think Teddy Riley uses a synth with 1 attached but I'm not 2 sure.

I checked Piedog. Its a guitar talkbox. Again I want the 1 which is keyboard based.

Check out:

and watch Summer Jam 1998 clip and U will see the talkbox and the effects I want
