New 2funkE website (including 3 new downloadable tracks!)

Hi funky people!

Finally we got our own website up. It still looks like shit but we will improve the looks when we have more time and knowledge. The most important thing is that we can put up new songs much faster than before with mp3.com!

So please check out these 3 new funky tracks (well. one of them will probably sound familiar to some of you) and tell us what you think of them. Be honest, we don't mind harsh comments as long as we can learn from them...

The address: http://home.wanadoo.nl/g....2funke.htm

Greetz,

Geoffrey & Ingmar (2funkE)

It would be my pleasure to program a beat for you. You have already made a song to which it should fit or do you want to use my beat as a starting point?

PS: the picture in your profile, is that your band?

Hey Red, what do you mean with "nicht"? Never heard of that word before. Well, in my language it means "cousin" or "gay man", LOL!

I'm actually looking for some "in depth" reviews of the songs: is the arrangement good, are the soundlevels correct, etc...

But of course, if you think they sound just fine the way they are, I would like to hear that too! wink

I will review them this weekend. I have access to a computer with sound then. All I know is that they will be MAD FUNKY! You definitely give up the P!

Overall I like them, but without a main melody line or SOME kind of theme, these all get too redundant. You've got some hints at melody lines, but they kind of dissapear or they're just partial. I know you don't sing, so you're forced to work with what ya got... and you're hoping to get some lyrics up on the tunes, so, that said...

MAN - I swear on the beginning of "Funk O Matic", (and this is going to annoy you) I almost expect to hear "Like they always say... what's good for the goose, is good for the gander. OH SHEILA".

Funk O Matic: The song's good - but you have everything panned dead center, with the bass guitar chorused out. The rhythm is dead on, I'd suggest messing with moving the guitar and keys a little to the left or right and adding some reverb to put everything in the same room... but that's my preference - trying to get that "live" vibe.

On the guitar - I'm not entirely feeling the chords in there - almost expected a linear rhythm pattern instead of chords.

Also - pump the keys up some - they're very buried under the bass guitar and the handclaps... if anything, maybe pull the effect off the bass a little bit.

Tuff Groove: VERY Sweet. DAMN this is good.
My one suggestion to pump it all out full on oh-shit-thats-the-jam (IF IT WERE ME, mind you) would be to play the tamborine at 16th notes somewhere towards the middle of the song - kind of like "The Future" remix (I THINK that's where I've heard it) - so you've got that sparse funk bass thats just UOOOMPH, and when the tamborine goes to accented 16th notes, oh HELL you HAVE to get up and dance.

My Groove Instrumental: Super Tight. I like it a lot. Vina's contribution to the song will bring it to life. Because of the minor chord main vamp, I almost would like to hear some sort of release of the tension - like on Janet's "What Have you Done for me Lately" where the bridge goes "I never asked for more than I deserved" - some kinda thing like that where the keys play open chords and the whole thing kinda modulates - you need SOME sort of change in dynamics on a song this intense.

Just my pinions, as always. Excellent stuff man - EXCELLENT.

2FunkE, this stuff is just plain funky. You and your partner have the great ability to be subtle and patient in building the grooves. I love it all and can't wait to hear how it develops.

Thanks for sharing.

Not knowing everything about every funk artist doesn't make me less of a funk lover, I suppose. Or did you forget the wink emoticon?

I don't like the wink emoticon but no harm was intended of course. That said every "Funkaholic" should at least have a couple of Sly records in the archives.

I LOVE Tuff Groove. This is my fave 2funkE track so far. This one makes me want to collaborate with you again. Dig the vocal samples and this beat is the kind that makes me move. Love the grinding baseline. Amazing.

Glad you got a website up! clapping

Otan, thank you for the extended review, you are the best! I will certainly keep in mind all the tips you gave when doing further work on these tracks...

Slave2daGroove, thanks for your continuing support, I'm glad you dig the songs!

Vina, we think Tuff Groove is our best effort to date too! We were really satisfied when we recorded this track and we hope to make more tracks of this quality. If you want to work with us again you are more than welcome, because your contributions to My Groove really give the song that finishing touch, like otan already said!

I'd like to use a beat of yours as a starting point. Something with a start/stop effect. I'd be truly grateful biggrin.

Okay. I got to listen to this at lunch today. I REALLY like Tuff Groove. I think that Tuff Groove is your best that I have heard. Nasty funk, awesome robot voice, scratch guitar, the linn drum, the little voice sample (or what sounded like a female voice sample), this is REAL NICE. Of course I know My Groove, and Funkomatic was nasty funk, with the Linn synth toms in the back.

This is the kind of stuff I would be doing if I had the same equipment as you. GOOD WORK!

Peace,
JD

Thanks for the compliments, Jason! Actually I'm happy that you don't have any better equipment, because I'm sure you would kick my musical ass in that case! lol

Here's a little (stupid?) riddle: the woman's moaning, the scratch guitar and some small part of the beat of Tuff Groove are sampled from a Prince medley my friend Ingmar has on vinyl. It was made by a Dutch guy in the eighties, this guy nearly perfectly copied Prince's sound. So I sampled Prince songs without actually sampling Prince, LOL!

Can you or anyone else tell me what original Prince songs these samples come from? This shouldn't be too difficult for any hardcore fan. Good luck!
