Hey NFO . i dig the ideas you are working on in this new site!. I have to agree with Lewis that a preloader is absolutely necessary cause a lot of visitors are not hanging on if they see nothing happening.

I can script a preloader for you if you don't know how it works exactly... let me know!

I like it, I like the idea, but I'm not a huge fan of sites that are videogames. If somebody wants to email us, they have to scroll over everything to find out what does what. I know the metaphors are pretty clear, (really like the rolled up newspaper) but I would like to see labels on everything.

We're trying to gain new people, get them interested in the project - again - if we were huge established collective, people would love the game concept, but, again, how many folks are going to come to the site on the suggestion of one of us, TRYING to find the music, and then split? I clicked on a link and the messageboard popped up - I had no idea what I was clicking on at the time, didn't know what would happen... which, again, is cool for most of this stuff, but, if it's popping up a new window, or my email program, I wanna know first.

As always, just my opinion. If consensus likes it without labels, go with that.

I prefered Vinas idea, keep the site simple, the only people that need a flash site are webdesigners

Ehh, well, flash is cool but then it can get overdone. As long as the intial page (pic of the desk) leads people to deeper sections of the site, like the songlist, message board, basic info, etc, then I have no problem with a nifty flash interface... I guess. I'm in the middle of trying to design a flash interface with an i-frame in the middle that loads html pages... except I think i-frames only work on I.E., and maybe only on PCs.

I'm curious to see the bio section. I agree with Otan, some kind of labeling is needed. Maybe a word that comes up when your mouse goes over each link.

Iframe is pretty standardised now. I usually use framsets instead though cos even IE 3.0 can view them. Although my uncles new site features a browser detection system (my first dabblings with hand coding javascript) which send them to the appropriate page for tgheir browser.

This site http://hotwired.lycos.com...ser_chart/ has a chart of what is supported & not supported in all known browsers & operating systems

Personally, I no longer write code for out-dated browsers. It would take 50% of my time to write code for 5% of the browsers (outdated).

If it ain't IE5+ or Netscape 6+, they have to suffer and learn how to go upgrade. That's just me, but when I explain to a client that they'll be paying double the price so their grandmother on AOL 3.0 can view the site, it pretty much brings them around.

Yeah Ive always thought of going that way. Pain in the arse when your design is limited by things beyond our control like the prefered borwser of the user. I think broadband is changing that though.

Well...right off the bat I'd like to see a WHO/WHAT/WHERE/WHEN/WHY/HOW NFO statement. Nothing too intense, just something that quickly allows the viewer immediately to see what the Funk this site is all about...then they can click click click to their hearts content.

OH HELL NO you don't have MUSIC on the SITE with NO OFF BUTTON! At LEAST on my lame-o site, the music plays for 10 seconds and then stops.

PUT A STOP BUTTON ON THE PRE-LOADER.

PUT AN OFF BUTTON ON THE MAIN SITE. I just woke up my kid - it's 1am and I wasn't expecting that shit.

I understand that the NFO site is unfinished; it's like listening to bed tracks.

Am I the only one that doesn't like the look/feel of the site. I see negative space (layout wise), it's black & white and cold like chrome and I don't find it at all representative of Funk. I know nothing about designing sites, but it certainly isn't doing a thing for me. And the kid's cute but hey, I feel like maybe their's kiddie songs or kiddie porn happening.

Funk is colorful. Funk is bold. Funk is in your face.
Just my sentiment.

I think you got a good point, Red. I was thinking there was too much white, like maybe a different color backgroud would be good, like the groovy blue from the logo.

I like how the audio player was redesigned, but as always it isnt obvious that you have to open it up more so you can choose tracks, so maybe a little instructions on the side. Or maybe just the words "select tracks" by the square thingy that opens it up.

I have no frickin' clue where you got that impression!
(He took what I was building for an add and went with it.)

New Funk being represented by a New Child was my idea.

and I still like where the designer is going with it (and what I got the privillage of seeing in another planed layout.

In fact, put up some more children from different nationalities on there as well.

Why don't you point out to the NFO guy on the NFO board what you would like to see on the NFO site?

hehe YoMan...no clue as to how I got those friggin' impressions with the kid either...but I did. I feel U on the 'new child' thing... but... maybe if 'the new breed of funk' was portrayed a lil mo abstract, a little mo hipper and a lil mo representative of the day...A lil mo aggressive. U may be calling it the rebirth of Funk but no matter how U serve it, FUNK's still Funk, and a BAD ASS PIECE O BEAT...and the site should maybe come across as such. Kind of representative of the new funk founders too. Ya know, take on a bit of ATTITUDE.

Magazine format with up-to-date info, articles, interviews, pics, news releases, product downloads, merchandise etc. would look great, but probably also comes with a shitload of maintainance. And I don't see any drawn up committment from founding members on who's maintainting what. So I assume this thing will run itself smile. I understand SIMPLE.

Sorry Otan...I'm not a member of that board.

I think its a great website but not for new funk order. The design doesnt really look like a funk site or display any of our info, I think we may be shooting ourselves in the foot here guys.

Dont get me wrong, I think sites rather clever but not for NFO maybe for a personal page or webdesigners site but not for NFO.
