Prince wants your music!

Are U all aware that inside prince's domain (npgmc club) there's a room called 'Musicology'.

On the music stand is an invitation to help yourself to some of his samples, mix an mp3 combining his samples and your music...and send it in for showcase.

Now if that ain't right up the NFO Artist's alley.

Go for it gang.

You have to mix his samples into it though. Camille4U did a mix. I don't think he wants us to send in our cd.

I guess it would be cool to create a beat/baseline with his samples and put something over it, but I don't know...

shrug

Yeah...I'd send in the disc too but...
I think the rules are that you are to make use of some of the samples he's alloted.

Well, I'm not a member, so...

Plus I've got tons of things to work on already. I doubt Prince is gonna look at a track I create with his samples and think "Hmmm, I should help her record her album."

Maybe I'm just being pesimistic.

What kinda samples are they?? Are they mainly full arrangments or are there some nice drum loops & vocal samples on their own??

i did a mix of musicology, but they did not post it.
i knew they wouldn't.
i basically did a drum and bass mix.
i used the bassline and the vocal from the musicology files and then added my own beat, etc.

oh well.
i thought it was cool that prince let folks do a mix though.

It's one baseline, one horn part, one string part, one vocal, one drum beat..

ie, everyone has the same shit to work with. I listened to some mixes, and they were cool, but listening to over 10 people remix the same samples...

I listened to Camille4U's via email and that was cool. I listened to DJEmamle's and a few others. Then I couldn't get that damn sax line out of my head.

Lewis, were you a member the first year? He tried to do something similar then.

IF I give this a shot, I would be tempted to only use the drums all the way through, the strings and vocals here and there, add a LOT of my own shit and maybe the other samples for continuity. I wonder if that would be acceptable. One member reversed the drum sample I think, and I would do that too.

I guess that answers my question about adding my own music.

Thanx Vina

Yeah I was in on the first years competition. Wheres a competetion for musicians?? The first year one was just 'put vocals & lyrics on this' & the new one is 'mix these samples' which is cool but neither of which are my area.

I'd love to see a 'see what you musicins can do with these lyrics' competition or something. I might jump at that.

Just checked out the chosen samples...to date. They all good but of course they all sound pretty much the same. U can tell who knows the tricks. However, not enough samples to really mix it up. All comin' out the same like a 'Power to the People'...ya know..."dancin' to the music...all night long". Very SLY

I know it isn't new...Beck...Bowie etc. do it...but I still think it's coo. NEED MORE SAMPLES THO!!!
