Can anyone recommend any programs I can use to make some beats and then record guitar and bass over it? And where to get them.

Cunase has their own beta software tho.

If you want something really easy, go get Fruity Loops. And then go d/l some Linn samples, and you're ready to go.

I myself use Cubase but theres plenty of info around on the other 3 for you to figure out which ones right for you.

Fruity Loops is definately easy to use for programming beats. If you wanna record guitar, bass and other "live" stuff, get Cubase...

Not true! You CAN export your loops in the demo version. SO, if you have something like ACID, even the free version that only gives you 8 tracks per song, the two free programs, combined, can give you all you need to put together some really cool stuff.

I have the demo version here at work and I use it to create loops for flash ads. Whoo!! They'll come after me now I'm sure.
