Someone just did something so nice for me! A co-worker just handed me a cd that they burned of my demos from my website. Her husband put it together and they printed out a nice cover for it. She took a picture of a moonflower in her garden and put that on the cover. That was so sweet! These demos are sooo rough that I haven't burned them onto cd yet, but I guess she felt it was worth it to make this for me.

Hey that's pretty damn cool when somebody thinks your stuff is better than YOU do!!
I guess I need to lower my opinion of my stuff... The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

LOL Otan! Well it's nice to know that my music touches people regardless of how imperfect the production is. If I didn't care what seasoned professionals and experienced musicians think, I would have released this album a long time ago.
They burned mp3s, so we can't really listen here. Its so sweet, she was ready to play it for me on her cd player here at work, but it was mp3 files. She gave it to me as a gift. This past weekend I felt like a big poopoo head for not working on my music. I mainly did website updates and created an MSN community for myself. So this made me feel a lot better. Thank God, because I was feeling really resentful about having to come to work and not having more time for my music!

People are always telling me how good my stuff is, but most of the time I feel like crap about it, because the sounds are "dated" and the music does sound very 79-91. Sometimes I feel good when someone says "this sounds like top 40 material from 1985", but then sometimes, I am like, "are you complementing or are you crackin' on it?"I don't know. The way I look at it is like this: if my music sounds like top 40 from the mid 80's, and it took those guys thousands of dollars worth of studio and equipment to sound that way back then, then maybe my 1500 dollars of equipment is doing well.
If I only had new equipment that had sounds updated to about 1998. I would be funkin' real nice! That is cool that people are giving you good reviews for the music and the keys. Some people can see through technicalities to see the real talent and abilities. Personally, I am getting a little bit irritated with record companies or other music people teling me "well, Jason, we see that you have talent, however, your sound needs to be a little more updated"- huh, NO SHIT? Are they gonna shell out the 1500-3000 dollars for a new Tascam and a Korg Triton? Naaa, probably not. So, these people need to just listen to what we have and stop being so condescending.

That is nice Vina. I had a similar thing at the weekend. Went to this huge party & my mate was one of the DJs. Im chatting away to a friend later on & I could swear I can hear 'Make Funk Not War' playing. My mate played my song in front of 1000 people!!! Cool! Didnt even give him a freebie CD though, he bought it from the site like everyone else no matter how much I insisted he just have a free copy.

What a nice surprise! I remember a few weeks ago I tried to request my song on New Power Radio and I couldn't because it was already on the playlist!

You know your talent shines through! Most people who talk about sounds and styles being dated, are not listening to the songwriting skills, IMO. They are more preoccupied with the music sounding cool or new, like the latest fad, what EVERYONE else is doing. Blah!

Doesn't that feel good Vina?!
Such a great feeling is when someone shows interest in your art. Today one of my co-workeres came in and put my band's cd in the player. I thought that nice of her. Keep it up Vina! "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"
