Hey Cloud 9 Mission!

I found this on a site called www.digitialvillage.co.uk...

Is this the kind of thing you meant when you said vocal amp?

Product Description
For desktop recording, the JOEMEEK Micromeek MQ3 makes the ideal studio companion. It’s all that you need to produce great sounds from any microphone or instrument source in the studio or live. You can achieve the sort of punchy professional sound that direct recording lacks.
Whether used as an effect, or simply an input conditioner, the MQ3 will deliver a quality sound from virtually any source, making it an ideal front end. To achieve this, the MQ3 packs 3 pieces of pro audio equipment into a powerful 1/2 rack size package:

‘CurrentSense’ mic pre amplifier - JOEMEEK’s unique pre amplifier actually optimises the performance of the microphone in circuit, meaning rich and clear sounds every time, from any microphone source.

JOEMEEK Optical compressor - The classic character of our compressor may be used lightly to add warmth, used liberally to add punch, and used even more to hear the ultimate squeeze! Always with JOEMEEK the signal will maintain it’s original clarity even with extreme compression!

The MQ3 is one small part of the JOEMEEK 'Q' range, all employing the fantastic classic 'Meequalizer'. The 3 band EQ adds warmth to signals, making them come alive. A perfect add on for today's digital recorders and mixers.

The JOEMEEK 'Meequalizer' is a line level equalizer with a difference. That being its design was inspired by Ted Fletcher's early 70's mixing desk designs to have an EQ effect that was pleasing to the ear, and not necessarily having the same effect or response curves as ordinary EQ's. The Q therefore has been built to give the most aggressive, powerful sound possible, while maintaining a signal's musical harmonic properties. The key to producing an EQ with tonal qualities beyond any digital or modern op amp based design is simplicity. Don’t worry about db/octave predictability, or precise frequency responses, or even have too many bands and shelving controls. These things have no place in the mind of the sound engineer who has to produce the right sound for the job. The Meequalizer has the sound, and that is all that matters. The MeQ is an EQ with a sound unlike any other EQ on the market. Program material of all kinds can be improved by it awesome sonic capabilities.

How is this possible? The Q uses a vintage design class A amplifier at the heart of the EQ sections. Use of this amplifier reduces harmonic and inter modulation distortions normally caused by class B and digital equaliser models. The class A amplifier also produces valve like signal qualities that warm sound.

Meequalizer - A 3 band, phase levelling EQ; simple, and sounds fantastic. With optimised frequencies for tracking live instruments and vocals.
