Good starter bass for slap style?

Any suggestions?

I've finally decided to get myself a bass guitar. I intend to learn how to play the instrument almost exclusively using slap style. I'm looking for some recommendations as to what would be a quality bass for this style...probably something in the $200-$300 range. I do play other instruments, but I would definitely be open to some other advice for a bass beginner.

Thanks!

nod I'm also interested in knowing this. Would a Fender Squier Jazz Bass be a good choice?

I don't think a particular bass is required for a bass style. A squier bass might be a good idea. The quality of squiers has been going up these past couple of years. Again, you could probably use any type of bass that's comfortable to you, but you often see slappers/poppers using Fender (or Fender style) basses. But there's no reason you can't use a Gibson, or Ernie Ball, or whatever you like. Try before you buy

Try an OLP, which is basically Musicman's "Squier". Thunping is a technique. You can do it on any bass. I'd advise you getting a Boss Limiter enhancer pedal to go with any bass that doesn't have active electronics. It'll help. If not, pick up a little Danelectro Fish n' Chips EQ pedal. It'll also help out a lot when it comes to getting a better tone.
