DILEMNA I been using my PC for writing my music for sometime now and for so many years, I have been sorely devoted to using Logic.
However, as most of us know, Logic is now Apple only and simply put, I don't like Apple - I'm more into getting hands on rather than being a leisurely user but that's subjective. I digress, Logic 5 is great for what it does, but now I need 2 move on... Now every few years I seem to change my recording software anyway. The problem is, I havent been hot on some of the stuff that's out there. Now I used Cubase for a short period of time and when I saw Logic 2, here was no going back... until now. I've recently implemented my bro's computer with SX 2, Reason 3 with total ReWire2 capability... and it is sweet. For the first time I (reluctantly) thought about migating to SX. Now I've never been a Cakewalk fan, yet they seem to be leading the way in moving on to the next gen. 64-bit technology. I thought about using Pro Tools, but I don't find the ReWire functionality in ProTools 5 all that great (I been led 2 believe that 6 isn't available for PC as yet...) Without mentioning Fruityloops, Ableton Live or any other what I call "Single-finger chord" applications, what do U guys recommend and why? It'd be good to get an array of opinions so I can see other peoples pros and cons before deciding my own. Thank U 4 your time. 'dre p.s - I've just ported over a drum solo from the Alpine tour this year on my myspace page. It's taken from my jazz bands myspace page so please visit them if U watch the video! I just have Cakewalk experience as a friend of mine has been with it from the beginning. It's cheap and is a workhorse, I use a tenth of what it's capable of but I'm constantly amazed with it's EQ and effects, not to mention the envelopes and what I can do with basic things like panning and volume control. My friend has gotten into the 64 bit end but had to spend some cash on hardware to have true 64 bit capabilities.
I've only owned a copy for a couple years but it get's the job done. I should also mention that I'm all about the live sound so I haven't gotten into it's looping or MIDI capabilities. Tal uses it more with these capabilities, Tal?

By that you mean music making software for non-musicians? If you like Logic and PCs why not just sit tight on the last PC version of the software? Glug, glug like a mug

I've gone as far as I can go with Logic, that's the issue I'm having and reWire2 doesn't work with Logic 5.5! 'dre Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

Either get Cubase for the wide array of available instrument and effect plug-ins or switch to ProTools cause it's the industry standard which makes life much easier if you plan to mix in other studio's, exchange recordings, remix stuff etc.

yo Dre, ppl in this joint don't respond the way they used to. The old crew is in lurk mode for some reason. Anyway, I use Cakewalk 4 Producer Edition but I don't max out what it is capable of. I primarily use it for midi sequencing. There have been occasions when I have used the audio tracks for import/edit as in recording and mastering. There are some great tools in this software. I am sure at some point I will get around to all of it's functionality. I used to upgrade every year to the next version but now I will wait to see if I will ever need to. I hope this helps, peace
