Sounds like a cool idea!! Maybe we should start with a nice beat, nothing too nutso, just a tight groove. So whoever is the king of that here could get it started, then the bass dudes each play a couple of bars (in whatever key is the consensus choice). Whoever is the king producer here then lays out the bass lines in an order they see fit. Once that foundation is set everyone can chip in as little or as much as they like. Leave it to the producer to lay it out again, then the whole cycle repeats until we've got a long ass jam that everyone can be proud of smile
how does that sound?

If it helps get anything started, feel free to use the following lyrics. I always planned on using these for a song, but I hadn't been inspired to write the music yet. The lyrics are very personal, if anyone is interested please go ahead. Let me know what you think.

ERASED

I'm the one never spoken about
I can only be whispered on a mid-summer's eve
The clouds over me are far too many
For them to ever stop and think of what I believe

I'm the one who is the outcast
Because I decided to stray too far from home
I never really deserved their love
So I don't exist and I deserve to be all alone

They've all made it clear that they're ashamed
That we share the same blood, the same last name
There are family pictures, but they don't bear my face
Like dust from the rain, time and again, I've been erased

I'm the one fallen by the wayside
Unnoticed because of religion and race
There are no phone calls and blind eyes are turned
As it turns out the invisible man needs his space

Hearts can't be traded like tokens
Conditions shouldn't be placed on someone's love
No olive branch of sincerity
Could stitch the wounds and feel no healing could ever be enough

No turning back, because things can't be the same
Even though I share their blood, their last name
I'm now gone and there isn't any trace
Of the life I've been living, the love I've been giving
I've been erased

No eyes to behold my long-forgotten face
Their backs turned cold on this lonely soul, I've been erased.

Hi TheQuest

I wouldnt want
to recreate the
experience you
have written about

so....
I have to ask...
how flexible are you
with having various alterations
made to these words by members here.... ???

1 more question that is optional for you....
- How long ago was this piece created?

cool

TheQuest

Hi,

I'm not against various alterations of the words to fit the musical theme as both the music and lyric should reflect each other. The only request that I would make is that no curse words or sensitive material are added and if interested we try to stick to the theme.

Otherwise I'd like to hear how others interpret the lyric to bring it to song. Also, in answer to your question this piece was created within the last year so it is fairly recently created.

Thanks.

This is very cool and actualy easy to do.
I have a machine that can quantize everything, even the key,
so if someone is out of key or time, i can warp them into time and key.
Drums at 100 bpm with bass in the key of C is no problem,
You mean low c? As in off a 5 string bass?
I can post a MP3 in here by friday, then, you guys add to it, Ill down load it and repost the quantized piece, as people keep adding, Ill keep bouncing tracks, and quantizing you in and posting the next segment. Its actualy easy if we aint lazy....

I was just talking about this in another thread..
I Could care less about rights or $$ , its about the jam.
I could care less if i hear it on the radio next summer,
wouldnt be the first time...
wont be the last. biggrin

If I post a Mp3 of a minute of funky drums and bass
will you guys add to it? Ill Q it all in , make it sounda gooda cool
Then do what I really do and throw some rhythm guitar in....

Yes, I got several drum beats for everyone to pick from
I have practice tonight, Ill be recording the bass lines and
then posting them on a server for everyone to goto listen from the pieces and pick which one we want to move forward with, if you guys think they all suck, you can fire me, or ill post some new ones next week. But I plan on having some beats and bass in the key of C at 100 BPM as instructed biggrin By tomorrow Night Midnight central time. wink
If I am stepping on toes or anything, I do not want to be, this is just totally fun to me...

Great! Really looking forward to your stuff. I don't know if there's a list with contributors here or if I'm even good enough to help with anything, but maybe I'd like to put something on it, too. On a completely non-spectacular level, though. lol

happy happy!

How come everyone is so set on this happy key of C? Especially with lyrics that are so somber?

You can hear me mess up the drums In the second roll
I think, But, its all good, once we pick a beat and stuff, Ill clean it all up.

For the record, I do not have a degree in mpls funk, more like a Diploma, ok, more like a GED, I lived in Minnesota for about 8 months, and jammed in minneaplois, but, I had to leave, tooooo cold!!!

I figured for now, wavs are easy to bounce trax down to and
everyone pretty much uses windows and it is automatically set to use quiktime which is a default for windows for most, so, just about anyone should be able to hear them...
Let me know if the wavs present problems, Ill format them to 3's
I gotta go, Im beat, I went to work early, set up the tone joint on my lunch and
played all that stuff tonight and then posted it. Its a holiday weekend so, cool Ill be around...

Thanks be brutal...
they are live beats, so, I can quantize to a techno type of beat but....
Prince uses a real drummer Live.....I do everything live and Mic it.
