I try to make sure that when I am recording there are no distractions. Usually any distraction I have is mental - the mind likes to wander - but in music it's like meditation - u just clear your mind and stay focussed on the core of the vibe - and receptive to the inner muse - where the music is already complete.

Sometimes it's like being a translator - others a creator - and yes this takes a quiet mind.. but the rest of my life has plenty of distractions if I let them in ..

Read a funny quote the other day - seems to relate ..

" Always yield to temptation
- you never know when it will pass your way again "

Maybe it's just all about timing.. and how to recognise whether something is a distraction or an actual PART of what it is we're trying to do.

eg: if I am recording and my son comes in and says something like " I'm hungry can I get something to eat " - I know I need to kick the drums a bit harder in the butt ..

Reading the world through poetic eyes certainly helps us in our music.
