RockStar audition is tomorrow BABY I'M A STAR!

So, I've decided (today, 5 minutes ago) to go for a complete sellout song that's deep in my heart.

I'm going to cover BABY I'M A STAR. I'm headed home to put together the backing tracks/vox for the thing. When I get it all done tonight, I'll post my version up here for y'all to hear it. It's gonna be funky. Almost a "I Need You Tonight" thing, I think. Gotta wait til I get home and see what unfolds.

DAMN I'm nervous about this stupid thing. It doesn't make or break me as a singer, but, damn yo, this is INXS - my second favorite band.

BIG BIG BIG THANKS to RED for telling me about this thing.

Hey! I sent you an orgnote too! pout

Anywho... I just realized you're supposed to perform to a cd backing track or 1 instrument accompaniment. Yesterday I was thinking you need to pick a song and practice with your band, lol. Break a leg!

Well... seeing as how I don't have the backing track per se, I either have to come up with some flaming stuff tonight, or do it acoustic tomorrow. I've got plans for either... the whole idea of a backing track - I just can't imagine that flying so well, because it would be too easy to double your vocals, (ASHLEE SIMPSON style). I mean, shoot, that's what I would do on the delicate parts of something like "Life Can Be So Nice", where there's 4 vox singing 2 parts, and, I have to wonder if the organizers are going to look at that as a bad thing?

I'm almost tempted to just bring an acoustic and a drum machine, playing to loops. Shit. I got less than 24 hours and I still don't know what the hell I'm going to do.

See? This is why I need a manager and a personal assistant and, oh, hell, a whole entourage.

You said you sent them links to your stuff online. The web site said you needed to send a DVD. Is your stuff online visual or could I just send a cd?

I think I'd do acoustic, personally, just to make it more live. It seems more of a rock band type thing than canned pop performance (which is why it's much more tempting than American Idol, which I'm too old for anyway!). Just my opinion.

Basically, the auditions were too soon for me to send them a CD and await an appointment (just 5 days away). So I sent them an email (on Saturday, no less) saying, "I'm sending the kit to you, and I'll be standing in line on Thursday. Here's links to three songs (one cover, two origs) and if I hear from you, that's great, if not, I'll be at the open audition."

They called me later that day to schedule the private audition. So, either, (a) I got lucky with whoever got the e-mail, or (b) they didn't want to get a deluge of emails and mp3 files, or, (c) my cockiness bugged the guy so much he clicked on the links to prove me wrong.

I don't know how I slid under the wire like that. I'd be at the bar today if I didn't hear from them. From the looks of the bar this morning, I don't think there was an insane wait to get your audition today, so, if I were you, I wouldn't sweat the open audition.

But, go ahead and go to their site - they have an email address up there, I say it can't hurt to shoot them an e-mail.

Sing with that soul you put into every recording and bring the acoustic.

Sending you all the positive energy I can, kick their ass and own it (whatever you end-up doing).

I know you will.

Cool. Actually i just reread the instructions and you don't have to send a video. I'd rather send a cd than show up because I live in Berkeley and the closest audition is in LA. Of course if they called me back I'd go!
