Funkaholic (Bumper) and JDODSON (Flashpointe) Collaboration: Listen Here!

Cosmopolitan Lover

I made sure that the vocals on this one were clear and I took some extra time on this, because Funkaholic wanted some very well arranged lyrics on this.

This is a collaboration between me and Funkaholic (Bumper). He laid down the music and I wrote the lyrics and sang the vocals. The original instrumental was titled "Don't Hang", but I titled the final mix "Cosmopolitan Lover". I hope you all enjoy, and let me know if you like it. The vocals are a change for me, and you will probably be surprised!

JD

I love this and think it's about time you guys did a collaboration, it's a natural fit. Lovin your harmonies JD and actually everything about it.

If I could make it better I would adjust the mix because (on my shitty work speakers) it seems like vocals are on top of the music.

Thanks for sharing

Hey Slave, I think my mixing situation stems from me being so use to mixing hip-hop tracks from 1990-1999. Back then, it was a good thing for the lyrics to be over the music, because the music had so much bass in it, that if you didn't turn up and crisp the vocals, the bass (when turned up to the max) would drown out blended lyrics.

So, that's what I do on all of my tracks. My tracks are meant for the bass to be up to the FULLEST.

Lots of boom in my songs. I have the long 808 basslines in most of my music. It may add to people's listening experience if they knew this.

Peace,
JD

Man, I was just wondering yesterday if you were still up to do this vocal job, now I visit the Org and it's there! I love your vocals Jason, but I agree with S2DG that they are too much on top of the music. Would it be possible for you to send me the clean vocals so I can mix a version too?

Hey Funkaholic! I will upload the vocal track to soundclick either today or Monday- I didn't put that to disc, so I will have to go home and do that.

Glad you like it!

Peace,
JD

2 bad Prince does not make music like this anymore. This is the type of groove that's missing in his music today. I hope he reads this and gets pissed off enough 2 satisfy my hunger for his raw funk. Good work guys.

Thanks Tal! Your comment about Prince not delivering the raw funk anymore (at least not on record) is spot on IMO. Prince, please pick up that glove and blow us out of the funky water man, after all you are the originator of this sound! wink

I agree with you on this! Great job JD and Bumper/2Funke. Also - if the music was in stereo, it would greatly help the overall mix - putting everything in mono makes it hard to mix the vocals into it.

Diggin this. makes me wanna get my parachute pants and do some poppin and lockin.

Hey this is cool! The beginnin, and the beat kinda reminds me of "All Day All Nite".

Are you doing an album for collabo's? I hope so. This is great! Despite the voclas being not mixed in well with the beat it is still a great jam. (do the wop, do the wop)

OK, the mix I'm planning to do is going to take a little longer, Jason has sped up the vocals and I can't seem to get them right with my track! lol But I'll keep trying and will post it when it is ready...
