I got the gig! Updated (I'm so happy!)

Well here it is. The 11th annual street painting festival is just around the corner. It's always been a volunteer basis kinda thing. This is deffinately my favoriite weekend of the year. Just me and some muze.

They have always had a pretty bland website. Well this year I volunteered to do it. I made them a demo site and they love it. Now out of this, I'm looking to get a whole bunch of work down the grapevine as this is a pretty big to do every year and it get's a lot of coverage.

Here's the Demo site: http://streetpaintingfestivalinc.org

Yeah, it could be hecka better, AND IT WILL BE, but I got my foot in the door.

That's me and my son last year.

That's Frank on guitar during the intro page and the quicktime movie.
He may very well be playing on the main stage this year. GO FRANK!

It's feels good to do something for your home town and community. Seems like the last several years, they've been pulling in all kinds of outsiders when we have plenty of talent to go around right here.

Otan sent me some KILLER ideas for last year, but none of them seemed "do-able" in the day and a half we have to complete them. I'm going to have to start thinking of something soon.

Thanks everyone!

ooh boy!
I get a meeting with the city council and the board of directors this week!

This might be THE turning point in my quest for self employment! Little jobs like this (with the right people) is what snowballs into many other opportunities. You just got to get your foot in the door. I didn't think it was even that great of work, but it was EXACTLY what was asked of me. Goodie, goodie!

What has someone been saying on these boards for a while now???
Think Global, act Local?

She's right!
Thanks PB.

Ok. THIS IS COOL.
Had the meeting with the city chamber of commerce this evening. Frank Got THE GIG! Main Stage! Sunday, the bigest day!

They want me to re-vamp their website too!

Take a look. It's pretty bad: http://www.lwchamber.com/
(I'll have my work cut out for me!) But you know what? Anybody could have got it. They just had to step up to the plate. Obviously. Look at the current website. It's a total hack job.

This totally EXCEEDED what I was hoping for in this meeting. Do you realize the possibilities of having THIS GIG! When people come to the city, they inquire to the chamber of commerce. So someone looking for a web designer, graphic artist, music, etc... They'll be like: "Hey, you should call Kelly".

WHOO HOO!

Self employment HAS ALWAYS been a HUGE Dream of mine. Working with Frank over the years and putting together the studio really opened my eyes to so many possibilities of just HOW I want to live the rest of my life. Frank's been very successful in being self employed and I've always took careful notice. And that has been if you want things in life, you have to work VERY hard at it and eventually you'll get there. God TOTALLY fuzed this friendship.

I grew up in the mountains of Tennessee. Yes, I've milked cows, cut the head off chickens and de-feathered them and fried them up. Shot my own food from the woods. (Rabits, dove, squirls) Killed and gutted a pig and learned how to make pork chops and sausage. All before going to school in the morning. Bill Cosby ain't got sh*t on me! Spent 10 years working to be a chef, thinking THAT is what I wanted to do, always having one hand in music and art but thought that was for upper class kinda people and I didn't belong. Overcoming that inferiority complex. Lost Jesus. Found Jesus. Or was he lost to begin with? I dunno. Got married, have two children. Responsiblity. Being head of household. Losing family. Gaining family. Constant mind Fu**. Things finally feeling like they are coming together. And for the best. Yet still at the foot of another big mountain.

No, I'm not quiting my day job, but I really feel like I just got my foot in a very big door.

They say every 7 years your bottom layer of skin is now the top layer of skin. So this year (29) makes the fist year of my "NEW SKIN". I'm hoping to jump right out of it and make this year one of the MOST productive and turning points of my life.

I'll shut up now.

To quote another ambition I once thought was the life for me... USMC: "Hoo Rah!" (Feeling quite good for just a high school education. Well a lot of community college when I can afford it too! Small biz, management, etc...)
