i'm trying to figure this piano stuff out without any lessons. when people post chords on here are they basiclly for the left hand and the right hand plays the melody? sorry to sound stupid but i am learning.

From what I've learned the bass line is done with the left hand and the lead is done with the right but chords are done with both hands.

you can do however you want, but usually the 2 hands carry the chords.

usually, when playing pop piano, it requires you to play bass with the left and chords with the right in most cases.
