new FUNK instrumental: NO SLEEP http://www.blindslim.com/...sleep2.mp3
Title is from the new baby. He won't sleep! Kept interrupting my moments of brilliance and stuff, and so, I finally got him to sleep around 1:30 am, and here I am, with no sleep, and a new song. There's the tradeoff. Working out the kinks in my funkin elbow and finding the groove in the drum machine and getting some decent (enough) tones in the new guitar. Give it a whirl and let me know what you think. Yes, it's a tad redundant, but, you know, so's your mom. Edit: Next day listening session: DAMN, again, it's just way too bottom heavy. Which could be a cool thing, but, personally, I'd rather being able to hear everything else going on. Gotta roll the bass back on the drums and bass again. Maybe it's the mastering software. I dunno. I've changed the file already - there was just too much guitar noodling on the original version ( http://www.blindslim.com/...osleep.mp3 ) so I rolled back the volume in between solos to give the song some air. notes: ALL guitars are Variax. DAMN it's a great tool if you use it right. The guitar on the right is a modelled Telecaster, I'm pretty sure? The lead guitars are Les Paul models. Maybe Specials. I dunno. I LOVE the octave pedal effect from the POD - I sound just like Jimi with Band of Gypsys! (I said SOUND, not PLAY). [Edited 9/16/04 6:30am] The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

It sounds a ton like two songs that are in my head, but I can't identify them. Anyway, it's great. I like the drum work! Since a Quicktime thing loaded for me, is there any way I can save this to my computer, and would you mind? "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Right-click (or option-click on a mac) and select "Save As" to save the file to your computer. And no, you can't. Just kidding. Yes. It's all yours. I'm all about free love. Glad you like the song. [Edited 9/16/04 6:31am] The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Hiatus, can't find my funk, Blah, blah, blah
I need to hear this with better sound to hear the Vari-axe but sounds low down and funky from these shitty speakers at work. A groove that I could put on repeat and listen to all day, I guess that's why I'm a Slave to it. muthafunker

Thanks man. I really like the groove on the song. I gotta do something more with it. Maybe add some kind of chanting chorus like, "fuck the police" or something.I need to hear this with better sound to hear the Vari-axe but sounds low down and funky from these shitty speakers at work. Nice.
Is this all Variax? Regarding a chorus, how about "FUNK the police". tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

How about "pick up the pieces?' Ummmm.....maybe not. Something about the hurricane? Bitchin' about no sleep? Yeah, and at the end act like you're just about to doze off, start to snore and add a baby's cry. Let me pat myself on the back. Please, only give my 1/4 writing credit, though.

Great groove and I want to say again that I think you're an excellent guitar player, man! I love it that you don't open that distortion pedal too far, you have a really nice sound. Good bass playing too, I must say. And your drum machine is really cool, are these all preset grooves and fills or do you program the beats and breaks yourself? Bad ass tune, my man!
So your recording stop has already finished? Well, if these two week breaks result in great funky grooves like this, stop as often as possible! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

All guitars are Variax, the lead are Les Pauls, (flipping between them, from solo to solo), the auto-wah rhythm is sposed to be a Rickenbacker, but who could tell.
The drum beats are all mine! I programmed it all. The drum machine is awesome. Glad you dig it. I've got some lyrics in mind. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Boss DR-3. It's pretty intuitive as far as programming/playing it. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

This sounds great! I wish I could play lead like you do. You have a great flow.
I assume you're using a PodXt with the Variax, I'm totally drooling at this point. I have to get one of these variax's. How flexible, I'm sure it could inspire a ton of ideas. I love that clean guitar on the left. It all sounds very cool.
