Need Advice............

It's gettin to a point in my Musical pursuits where practice is not as satisfying as it used to be and i need to start recording my tracks. Im considering buying an 8 Track (digital) but im wondering whether i need any other equipment.

Ive been playing Guitar for 11 years and will be taking Grade 7 exam in December and therfore i wanna show people wat i can make and wat im made off (i.e. family want me to be the usual Doctor, Lawyer, Dentist but im too into my Music)

oooh ooh me me! let me answer!! I know this one!

There's a good collection of 8-track digital recorders dedicated just to guitar players. Boss makes the BR8, Zoom started out with the MRS-1044 and 1244 and now has a new wave of multi-track recorders as well. The older models can be found on ebay for less than $400.

If you're looking for a all-in-one box to record your ideas, the features you're looking for would need to include effects, a built-in drum machine, and some sort of PC connectivity to move your ideas from the recorder to any other device, (although a lot of recorders come with a CD burner included. However, I prefer to move the files into my PC for further manipulation if necessary.)

I've used the Zoom MRS-1044 with great success over the past two years. It has fantastic guitar amp modelers, effects, vocal mic effects, bass simulator, drum machine, all sorts of goodies. I've had it over two years and I'm still learning things to do on it.

You can hear all my stuff at http://www.soundclick.com...dmusic.htm , or just click on the link below for my version of Life Can Be So Nice.

I also wrote a very extensive article on buying your first multi-track recorder. If you've got the time, I'd suggest checking it out:

Just be ready - whatever device you get, you're going to have a learning period. These things are hella-advanced now, but with all these bells and whistles, there's a very steep learning curve.
