I have a guitar with fender single coils and a guitar with Gibson PAF humbuckers. I like the humbucker sound best: Nice for clean jazzy stuff and for distorted lead sounds. I play funk and try to get a harsh-but-warm jazzy kind of early seventies vibe, Grant Green/Melvin Sparks stylee.

I used to have fender pickups on my old strato (american standart and tex mex), but i sold them because i only used them for clean sounds and used the humbucker for the rest.
Now in my new guitar i use two humbuckers from seymour duncan, alnico II pro for clean sounds and smoth leads, and a duncan custom for crashing out the house1

In my Tele Bridge I use the Dimarzio Virtual Tele which is a fantastic pickup in the bridge. It is a bucker but has all the clarity of a single coil as well as tons of twang. The Virtual line from DZ is among the best deals in pickups going. In the neck I use a Fender Delta Tone, it is a really bright neck pickup which I prefer. I hate mucky neck tones.

In my Strat I just replaced a Duncan 59 ( Great pickup) with a custom made 8.2 A2 PAF clone done by a friend of mine. I call it the love Bucker... It is hands down the best sounding bridge pickup I have ever used in Strat. Has clarity, warmth, and a wonderful open vibe to it that just lets chords ring. It was custom wound for 50.00 bucks which is a bargain by a long stretch. I have used tone of pickups over the years and this one just has it going on. If anybody is interested I would be happy to get you in contact with him.

In the neck I use a Fender 57/62 Reissue and in the middle I use a Duncan SSL1.

I only like low output pickups these days, I like the amps to do the work and don't like the color that more power addstp the tone.

I use an Epiphone Sheraton II I picked up in a pawn shop a while ago. The previous owner sanded the neck so it's real smooth. I immediatly tore out the stock pickups and put in Duncan Jazz and 59's - These two pickups are the exact opposite of each other. Ones dark and the other harsh. They do well together and give me tons of flexibility soundwise. it's a great combo.

I love my guitar.

I would like to get a strat or tele because my guitar is awkward past the 15th fret. It's hard to play in the upper registers, whereas a strat is no problem.

My tele has Nashville's, my Strat is standard, and my Frankenstrat has EMG single coils. Don't know what type, they were there when I bought it 16 yrs ago.

Those Kinmanns look sweet! But MAN I don't have $200 clams per pickup.
