Artists & writers from all around the world wanted 4 an art magazine

High y'all,

Having a nice conversations between writers with Starkitty yesterday, i thought i might meet interesting people here 4 the project i work 4.

The said project is a magazine called "Mercure liquide", of which the #1 will b published in september, printed to 500 copies with a new issue every 3 months.

It will contain only works of art: short stories, poems, free writing, theatre dramas, paintings, drawings, comic books & photographies. Every issue is 84 pages including 24 pages in color. Most of the published artists r people who r emerging as professionnals, though some don't have the will of being so, or in the contrary already live from their creation.

The content is chosen by a commitee of 6 people, all artists, & our criterions r not based on style or belonging 2 any tendence or genre in art. We actually consider art as a "genre" in itself, whatever the media or style u have, so our choices r assumed as being purely subjectives. Still, we consider the quality of the submitted work, the involvment of the artist in his/her art, the level of work & the "artistic maturity" that his/her creations show, & the originality of these creations. I have 2 add that we refuse around 50% of the things we receive (not 2 discourage u, but 2 say that we have the will 2 create a magazine of quality).

I have 2 add that we cannot pay the artists, since we cannot even pay ourselves as publishers, & r depending on subventions & sponsors, even if we hope we'll b able 2 publish without them after one year or so. The artists, of course, sign a contract with us stipulating we cannot pay them but that they remain the only owner of their work as an intellectual property, & r free 2 publish it elsewhere without even telling us.

Their will also b an Internet site: www.mercureliquide.com which is now under construction & will contain music & films since these cannot b put on paper.

Oh... i 4got, it will b published in France & in french. This poses no problem 2 visual artists, but is not necessarly one 4 non-french writers: if a work is in another language, we will publish BOTH the original version & the french translation. If we really fall in love with an english-language text, we can translate it ourselves in french, but of course it's better if proposed directly with the traduction (we have enough work lol). We cannot translate other languages, i'm sorry, so if u write in spanish, hindy, chinese or deutch or whatever else, u'll have 2 have ur work translated b4 u submit it. If u know someone who can translate it but doesn't master french enough 2 render the "style" & subtleties of it, we can arrange the traduction, though it would b risky 4 the respect of the original work, so we'll only do it as an extreme solution, if we can really appreciate a text despite a poor translation.

We really xpect 2 have non-french artists in the magazine (there r 2 Italian artists in #1 & 1 Italian poet in #2, but nothing more yet), & we really r dedicated 2 this project: we will do our best 4 it 2 b a success (on the underground level implied by such a project, of course) by promoting it a lot, including sending around 50 copies of each issue 2 various medias (press, radio & tv) & organizing events around it. We've been working on this project 4 more than a year now, & already got a €6000 subvention which guarantees that we can start the whole thing. Later, hopelessely starting in 2005, we intend 2 publish solo artists & writers books around the magazine.

So if u r interested, or know someone who might b interested, or just if u have any question, don't hesitate 2 send us samples of ur work or a link 2 ur website if u have one. We also need readers (lol), so u can contact us if u r interested 2 suscribe...

I realize i didn't mention something important 4 visual artists : sumitted work must b cohesive, as we r not a catalogue but a magazine which has the will 2 feature finished works. So it's better if u submit a series of pics, with a title & all. Though we'll look at samples & tell u what we think, we need something constructed in order 2 b able 2 publish it.

Peace y'all.
