well if this IS in fact an option, there will go most of the perks we got when we were paying $100 per year sad

No more cd's, no more downloads(maybe)
soundchecks uh uh - free entrance to aftershows ?

at that price ?

NO way !
Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

Something that sounds like good news has gotten some negative responses already.

Sounds like NPGMC is in a transitional period right now - either a) they're still trying to figure out a new way to wring money out of us this year, b) they're going to repurpose the site as a virtual Kingdom Hall, or c) Prince is on the cusp of a new label deal and he's saving all his candy for a new industry venture.

probably the last option, anxiety. but i don't see this as anything negative. i think he could realistically charge a one time fee and then if you want tickets to shows you pay extra, just liek it was before. i don't think it would have any bearing on soundchecks. the question is, does prince really feel like mixing with 'non-believers'.

Its C, and the club is just a side dish, which isnt a bad thing in my opinion.. Wouldnt it be cool to get EP's, singles with B sides and new albums in the record store?

damn, its almost seems too good to be true smile

Damn, I *HOPE* it's C - I don't think it would be a bad thing at all.

I was just reading an interview with Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth, and he was discussing how SY manages to put out side EPs on small labels while having a record deal with Geffen. He was like, "we don't sell a lot of records, but we're established enough to make Geffen look good, so they encourage us to do what we want." He then went on to talk about the problems Beck had trying to do the same thing, but without as much success as he tends to sell lots more records than Sonic Youth.

Prince could totally have that kind of set-up at this point in his career. He could put out the schmancy "mainstream" product and enjoy the trappings of a major artist, then get all experimental and JW and whatever with NPG releases, and PROVIDED HE DIDN'T FUCK IT UP WITH HIS CRAZY ASS NONSENSE, it could work brilliantly.

Aw, you guys are so cute, thinkin' lil' Princey could be a "major" artist...teehee. You really think a label would be interested in him? He's gotta be known as the all-time worst artist to do business with...right?

I think he could still potentially be signed as a "prestige" artist, but certainly not as a cash cow - those days are well behind him.

And as for Prince being difficult, I think if you give a man a life of luxury and he takes it away and thinks he won't know the difference, you'll find a man who is eventually willing to make some interesting compromises for the sake of getting that life of luxury back.

I'm not sayin' that's gonna happen...I'm just sayin' all the rumbling with Universal over the past few months could make for an interesting 2004...

honestly, with the circumstances involved, the executives that a major corporation wasnt born in the TRL era, their pretty aware that Prince could achieve more success with the right things involved, and with the help of prince himself, but I seriously doubt he will achieve such success as he desires.. perhaps when its all said and done.

Stop it...yer gettin' me excited. And you know what THAT breeds:

Good points though, mate. I don't think that in 1994 Prince would have believed that 10 years later he'd be pimping his presence for $1000 a head.

Well yeah, but you deserved it. I mean, he hadn't been to
Australia in such a long time and you guys missed out on
the other tour so you deserved something like that.

It would have been ludicrous if he'd charged you more.

Looka here...

Everybody grows and looks back on their lives and realizes that the same crap that use to get them all excited just doesn't do it anymore! You also realize you gotta compromise. As I said on another board last night, after all that fighting for his masters, invoking that there would be nothing for his children, he had better work to actually leave something for his children!

Plus, Bowie said Glass Spider tour eons ago would be the last time he'd play his hits...and uh, he's playing his hits along w/some great new originals. Artists will continue to be artists.

True. That is why I never complained about the $100 price like so many broke ass cry babies did. It was well worth it just to get that year of downloads. I have over a dozen CD-Rs filled with those Ahdio Shows and mp3 files - not to mention the video files and the 2 free afteer shows I saw with the free Rave special edition CD. Even if Prince paid some fans to join, there would be a faction of greedy losers that would complain.

Is that right? Why then or more and more artists taking similar stances in regards to the music industry? Record companies will do anything that will sell a record. Look at the crap that rules the airwaves now. It is just because they manufacture "product" that they can pimp to the youth of this country. Real music is hard to sell these days. An artist that wont roll over and be taken advantage of is also hard to sell. The industry made it that way.

SUre a label would sign Prince - lesser artists have deals. It is just that Prince isnt going to take some okey doke deal. He is Prince. He is going to require some deviation from the norm. He always has - from the first album that he insisted on producing himself back in the 70s.

or, if we re-sign as members they would have to disclose their privacy policy which would reveal they've been selling our info since we joined. . .

remind me to check the NPGMC privacy policy.
