The Club spoke and Prince listened!

After reading a full report of today's press conference it seems that the new club format has something to offer for everyone.

Sldawn gets "cd quality" downloadable songs, 77 cents for members.

A new user friendly web page for those so inclined to visit the club.

A hits heavy tour for the general public.

And Prince gets the hit with musiclogy(debatable) that he deserves (not-debatable)

It seems our rants have not fallen on deaf ears after all.

What more could one ask for? (club related)

Well for one I expected a release date
for Musicology to be announced today.
No mention anywhere of the March 29th date on his website.
I was really surprised he hasn't firmed up distribution details at this point.
I didn't realize Musicology was so much a work in progress.

Gee Neversin, you must have really good ears! After spending half my life in rehearsal rooms, at gigs or wearing headphones, I myself can hardly hear the diference between pro-quality DAT with golden plugs and a high end amplifier and mp3 quality... wink

What's your problem? I only said that I won't believe it till I hear and see it. That's not so strange considering prince's track record of broken promises. And I asked what kind of songs. That's not so strange considering that kind of info, along with other important info, isn't given.

This is just Prince hyping and teasing you to join the club!

I swear I could come up with all kinds of good reasons to explain my scepticism and criticism but any of you fams would still swallow Prince's promises and announcements as if he is a saint!

This is what you wanted?
A hits heavy tour??
A slightly friendlier web page???
Downloads instead of cds???

I think what was wanted was:
Remastered cds!!!
A more interactive web page!!!
A tour with soundchecks & after parties & new music!!!

I thought this was going to be a big year for Prince
but now I have my doubts.

If Prince puts out a good album with a good lead-off single and a good video to accompany it, it will indeed be a big year for him...to be honest, none of the other things will matter too much if we're each lovin' a brand new CD full of good music, and actually hearing his latest on the radio as we drive to work...

That's very cool theyre making some changes to the club. Their new navigation is still awkward (you have to keep hitting the back button on your browser to get back to that menu page), but better than no navigation.

I'm still wondering why they never just put a simple navigation bar at the top or bottom of each page for people to get around easily. I made a simple one http://members.tripod.com.../index.htm.

actually in every room there is a glowing spherical object usually tward the top of the screen that takes you back to the main navigation panel instead of just the back button. I think it used to take you back outside in the courtyard area.

I know what your getting at though. I'm a firm believer in "one click navigation" to get you anywhere else in the site menu design.

You had a tour with soundcheks, after parties and new music. Prince's is under no obligations to repeat that having it alone was a once in a lifetime gift!
Remastered cds, that would be a plus but the music won't change that much.
Unfortunately, Prince can not fufill your every little paisley wish, but the guy has gone out of his way to be responsive to members and non-members alike.

The club does appear to be improving. non-expiring memberships, new music to download for members and non-members, concert perks that alot more people should be able to take advantage of this year. Still, there is definitely room for improvement.

As far as the press conference goes, it was what it was, an appeal to the general public. If Prince came out yesterday and announced to the world that he was releasing remastered cds, had a more interactive web page and a tour with new music, soundchecks and afterparties (basically ONA) the result would have been a collective yawn

He's going for mass appeal right now and the masses could give a flip about getting a remastered version of Lovesexy. From what I can tell there will be some new music this year, there will be some old music this year, there will be some in between. So far that sounds promising, we'll see how it turns out.

I disagree. Remasters would certainly not draw a collective yawn, but a collective sigh of relief that he finally settled his dispute with warners and gives his back catalagou the treatment it deserves. I for one would be very happy with proper uncensored remasters, and coupled to the 20th anniversary of Purple rain I bet they would sell pretty good too.

Perhabs not Lovesexy, but Purple Rain, 1999, Parade? Defintly albums appreciated by the masses and the music critics alike.

Abrazo, I'm sure that you, me and everyone who reads and posts on prince.org would absolutely love remastered cds.

As for the rest of the world, I have NEVER heard anyone who's not already a hardcore fan say anything about Prince putting out remastered cds. A sigh of relief would imply that people other than orgers still care about his dispute with WB. They don't.

Prince is trying to appeal to the non-orgers again and putting out remastered versions of music he released 20 years ago, just isn't what they are dying to get.

p.s. Did you say Parade? Nobody cares about Parade but us, and only 2/3 of us care. SOTT would and should get remastered long before they get to Parade.,

I spend my life almost 24/7 in a studio environment recording and listening to music and when I'm not there I'm probably checking out local bands or gigs, but anyway if you don't hear any difference between an MP3/ WMA and a CD then there's something wrong with your hearing...
For example put on "The Gold Experience" CD and then listen to some "CD quality" MP3/WMA rips from it and tell me you don't hear a significant difference...
Look, I don't care if the NPGMC puts up low-fi material, but at least give the members a choice of format, like if they want CD's press some and sell 'em through the club and for people who are happy with rips put those files up for downloading, that's all I'm saying...
And well, again he's leaving people/fans out with no computer or internet connection or creditcard to purchase these files...

Neversin.

You are right, SOTT instead of Parade. But I still disagree about what the masses want., because what the masses want depends very much on how the music is marketed to the masses. With the right kind of marketing remasters of classics WILL sell. And 2004 is THE year to do that. Don't forget we are talking Prince here. You may think most people "don't care" anymore, but once he is being put back in the spotlight with all his talent and incredible classic albums many will care again.

Remastered CD's and hi quality bootlegs arent important at all. If ya got ya got em. Does it really really matter when it hits the fan if they are top notch 2 the 4 that will make ur eyes have an orgasm?

Complain 2 damn much. Ok, eye understand all the hoopla about remasters, but hell, i (and alot of other peeps) and easily go in a computer and turn up the damn volume, please. get a better stereo or something.

Then...WMA vs, CD quality? Who the fuck cares yall? It is better than not having it at all. Acting like u guys heard every single thing he made b4.

But for many, including me, the sound quality is very important. That hasn't got much to do with the stereo you are using, but more with sound quality of the CD. I really don't like listening to Parade and then SOTT and hear the enormous differences in sound. Therefore I would love to have remastered versions with all the same, excellent, sound quality. Same, but to a lesser extent, goes with downloads.
