I have a lot of respect for TRUE positivity, and I don't think the folks would know TRUE positivity if it gave them a loving bite on their collective ass. They preach one thing and expect it to be respected, but they employ the very same negativity through their actions that they're trying to rail against in their so-called "environment".

When I lurk around on other artist websites, it makes me even MORE annoyed at NPGMC.

Beck's website - very cool, very high artist involvement, even if it's mainly just a weblog that he keeps. Still, you get a sense of presence.

Talking Heads' website - for pete's sake, they've been disbanded for well over a decade, yet the forums are moderated in part by former members of the band! And they're very gracious in their participation, answering questions and offering feedback on threads just like any other person posting. Reading Tina Weymouth's responses is a delight - her humor and wisdom is amazing (of course, I'm a fan so I'm biased...but I'm a fan for a REASON).

And I could go on with other websites I admire, but you get the picture. What's missing at NPGMC is a sense of accountability - there's no voice there that comes on and responds to criticisms and questions with a sense of understanding and good will - "we hear what you're saying, and here's our take on the matter" - that's all they have to do, and it's not asking that much to expect - but that kind of responsibility seems below their bottomless cup of entitlement...entitlement to WHAT, exactly?

Well, I never thought I would be "this" guy:

Prince is an asshole.

There is no excuse for this. It doesn't matter if he is not handling it personally. It is HIS business regardless. He apparantly needs to get a better temp agency to supply his secretaries. If there was ever even a chance of my joining that club it is completely gone now.

you're right, it doesn't matter. maybe if he was little more involved with the club things like this would not happen. then again, maybe he is too involved with the club and that's why it happened. with prince, you just don't know. whichever, the club is lame and i suggest that you only join if it means you get decent tickets to his show.

Yeah, right, I might pay to see him live. I'm sorry to say (well, no, actually I'm not) but he will not get any more of my money. CD-Rs and bootlegs are more than enough for me at this point. I just absolutely refuse to support him after the way he is taking advantage of his cult. Oops, i mean fans

Personally, I don't care if it's a "hits" tour or not...if he comes to the states and there's any way for me to be there, I will. With mufuggin' bells on. wink

Yup, me too. I made a big ol' split a long time ago between Prince the musical hurricane and Prince the ranty windbag. I'm down with the music as long as he's down with his guitar.

my whole feeling is if its a hits tour, its material that i've seen rehashed about 25 times. i'd rather save the cash and go to the after show. if its SOME hit with a bunch of rare or new stuff, well sheeeit, i'll be there to get my jam on!

I hear where you're coming from...of course, you've seen the man live many many more times than I have. I've only seen him perform twice. Yikes!

Watch, he'll do a hits tour and you'll skip it and the encore will be Poom Poom. Hehe. wink

Heh - I'm still half-convinced that the lay-the-hankie-over-the-guitar part of the DVD is a symbolic reenactment of my banishment from the club.

Or of course he might be tucking it in for the night

I want to express regret for my postings yesterday.
I had only rejoined the Prince community and was upset by the stuff I was hearing but I went way too far because nobody really knows whether Prince is responsible for the things that are making people unhappy, ticket prices aside.

There was a similar point of criticism I made after a visit to the NPG shop in London during its brief existence and I went on to make the criticism public in a magazine which Prince read. Although the item had been edited to make it more offensive than my actual words had been (via ommission of context etc), I know for a fact that Prince was personally hurt by this.
It was an error that I had, ultimately, to honour as a hidden intention, if that makes any sense to anyone at all.

I'm a provocative type of person sometimes while being an acutely sensitive one at others. I can give criticism and than can't take it. This is called 'humanity'

But it was hypocritical of me to criticise NPGMC for the lack of respect shown (because of their feeling that a lack of respect is shown) and then to top that with a massive lack of respect!

I do respect Prince..immensely. Like others, I hope that what he's doing now makes him happy. If it doesn't then I hope he finds a new muse, a new approach which will.

I called him a 'religious zealot'. Which is just as uncool as it comes. I'm sorry for that. I shouldn't have had those coffees earlier but that's no excuse.
I'm retracting, apologising because it's not how I wish to represent myself ultimately.

Whatever he wants to believe in that helps him with whatever he goes through is fine with me.
As in "Whatever gets u through the night, it's alright...it's alright."

So I especially regret what amounted to a personal attack on him at the end of the posting I made.
And on the subject of the NPGMC, I guess it's fair to balance all criticism with the fact that this forum makes the criticism available for anyone, including the NPGMC, who wishes to take account of it.

Once again, to anyone who felt personally affronted by my postings yesterday, I apologise.

I think the whole key to this banning issue is stated in the membership agreement:

The Club reserves the right at all times to edit, refuse to post, or to remove any Information, in whole or part, that the Club deems inappropriate for inclusion in the Member Communities.

So anything that the club deems inappropriate, whether disrespectful, abusive or not, can and will be deleted. We all know how strictly P holds his crew to the company line, so why would anyone expect HIS forums to allow anything different.

Because some of us tend to hold people up to their own standards. Prince wrote "slave" on his face and cried for the very "freedom" that he now seems to disvalue AMONG HIS OWN SUPPORTERS. Honestly, did you read anything in that post that was out of bounds?

Freedom is a beautiful thing, so long as we all tow the line.

Yeah, they HAVE the right. It don't MAKE it right..

If they REALLY valued freedom, they would have the COURAGE to leave the post up and refute it logically in public. Debate it. Challenge it.

To paraphrase Orwell: "Some animals, it seems, are more free than others"

...

Glad I didn't join this year.
