What do you think about the packaging for NEWS? I think the packaging for NEWS looks great. The ONA box set was incredible. I only mention this because no one is doing anything interesting with their CD case design. I like when people think outside the box and try different things.

I agree -- NEWS packaging is quite nice (although it will get easily bent and worn over the years, that's for sure). My thoughts on the packaging are here: http://www.prince.org/msg...&tid=53932 Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. I haven't received the cd yet, still waiting..but what I've seen on the website I didn't really like. Being a designer myself I much prefer the timeless designs of Sign O' The Times, 1999 and Lovesexy, still very strong designs, aswell in photography as typeface and colour. The last decade it's all a bit to tacky and to much photo-retouched (Aside the RBC cover, which is exceptionally nice). As for the npg website I share the same opinion. I really think the techhnical part is great aswell as the whole concept of it, but it lacks the hip and strong graphical look&feel of the previous website. Some of the bootleg covers I see have much greater designs..more natural.
If you look at websites and cd covers from other big artists at this moment I think Prince got stuck in the early 90's..But then again, he makes it all up with the music and performance, cause that still can't be topped!!!

The packaging is sweet!
People ask me, "Blue, what is that?" "NEWS" I respond in my best mysterious Prince voice. And ofcourse they don't understand what the heck I'm talkin about. Blue Blue

I would love to see a digipack edition of 1999 and Sign o' The times that would be inspired by the original album packaging. For those of u that have Motown's reissues of Stevie Wonder's albums Songs In The Key of Life, Hotter Than July, Talking Book, and Innervisions, you will see what I mean. They took pride in reissuing those albums that would compliment the original packaging. I love it. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
