NEWS packaging

I received NEWS in the mail today from UPS -- for reference, I ordered mine around 9 a.m. CST the day it went on sale. I live in Texas, USA.

I have not put the CD in yet (but heard all the tunes during the first four days of its "pre-release" on the NPGMC site) -- my comments are on the packaging. I give them kudos for a uniquely-designed chipboard packaging that unfolds into the shape of a compass -- quite cool. There are four "foldout" triangles on the packaging that each contain words/concepts that were present in the "watch" movie on the NPGMC site -- "atomic," "love," "faith," "peace," "earth," etc. Each foldout triangle also gives credit to each of the musicians:

Eric Leeds - tenor and baritone sax
John Blackwell - drums
Renato Neto - piano and synthesizer
Rhonda Smith - acoustic and electric bass
Prince - guitar, fender rhodes, digital keyboards and percussion

The CD itself is screenprinted with an old-world looking compass, with the words of the four tracks: North, East, West and South.

Additional liner notes:

Directed by Prince
Engineered by Jess Sutcliffe
Mixed by Prince
Musical technicians Joseph Lepinski and Takumi
Package design by Jeremy Gavin and Prince

How long has he been publishing his songs as "Emancipated Music". Are these the first songs?

Actually, Emancipation was the first time we saw "Emancipation" music -- I don't think we've seen "Emancipated" music before now. ?

I just got mine today and I am really enjoyin the new cd.. I just tracked it into seperate songs. It worked out nicely. The only track that really didnt need to be "tracked" is North, simply because it flows nicely without the major transitions..

very nice cd.

Actually, I think this is the same package designer that worked on the ONA piano CD. N.E.W.S. is a much better piece.

In the Summer of 2001, I actually met Jeremy Gavin going into Paisley Park with the artwork for The Rainbow Children. He wouldn't show me it, of course - I was driving cross-country and my fiancee and I decided to stop in and see if we could see inside (never been before or since). Jeremy was a really nice guy and wanted to let us look around, but even he needed to wait for someone to come and get him.

Anyway, the point of the story is he's been around for a couple of years now...

i think it also means that he is sharing the credits with others meaning the band. it is improvised music isn't it? it makes sense. his ego is too big so he gives royalties to the band but it's under his publishing.
weirdo.

Maybe the others don't have any publishing contracts?

Sorry, I may have missed this on other threads (haven't been on the Org for a few days; speaking of which - WHERE is CalhounSq??? Honey, we miss you!) but 2 questions:

1. Is thre cd just one continuous track, then? Like Lovesexy? Or am I reading this incorrectly?

2. Where's Femi Jiya?? Is he no longer working with Prince?

Can't wait to get this cd smile The packaging sounds lovely!

Songs from "Emancipation" were published through Warner Chapell. He was actually no so emancipated at the time.

The CD is four separate tracks - North, East, West and South. It's not one continuous track like Lovesexy was. I think the last time Femi Jiya worked with Prince was for the Rave remix CD.

I think it's fucking weak that they mis-spell "saxaphone," lawd.
