I am not either. I never have been. No $ to do it. I spend my $ on the internet service.

I'm not.

So far, there simply hasn't been anything this year that makes me want to bother. I want the DVD, but that will be in stores. I wouldn't mind owning NEWS, but it's not worth the $25 upfront fee for a CD that is barely worth its $10 retail price (at least based on the reviews people have given).

I don't care about the site... if I want to discuss Prince I would prefer to do it here where everybody is not constantly kissing arse in hopes that Prince is secretly monitoring what they say.

In short, for $25, I want music... and one download and the chance to buy a crappy CD for an additional $10 is not enough at this point.

I've been a member, but this year I am no longer. IMO it's ridiculous to charge $25 for what you got until today. Maybe it will change, but at the moment I don't think so. Moreover there are few things I hate that much as censorship and hypochrisy...

Same here. Hell, I figure "N.E.W.S" will go on sale in regular stores soon enough.

Why don't you ask someone to order the CD for you?

I'm not a member because I don't see the point of Prince charging.

Not a member.

My reasons have been WELL documented here, and, frankly, I'm a bit burned out on the topic.

"Poor Customer Service"/"Lack of Communication" would be #1.

Also, I thought the 3 cd set was sort of a cheese way of delivering "4cd's"...

Edit:

I am also quite concerned about the increasing sense of separation Prince seems to be expressing these days. Knowing "The Truth"...there's only ONE way to know God, "Theocratic Order" and such...

Not a member. My reasons:
1. I'm not into downloading music on the computer.
2. Prince's poor customer service record scares me off.
3. My wife absolutely forbids me from joining! Why? See reason number 2. She's been with me through the NPG Mag thing & the Crystal Ball thing & if one more thing happens, my house just may Xplode.

I really want to get NEWS but I'll just have to find some other alternate way of getting it.

I'm not a member, but I loved NPGMC 2001 and 2002! I just don't like the new web page, from what I've seen so far. It's the tackiest thing I've ever seen, it's embarassing. Who are those two furry pussy cats in boots with the flaming swords at the front gate?? Geez, I thought I was a flamer! rainbow

I took a wait-and-see strategy this year. Last year I had a lot of trouble getting the CD's in the mail, I don't want to go through that again. Since NEWS and the DVD will go to retail, I see no reason to pay to visit that hideous site. If Prince comes to Toronto, I would join the club to get premium tickets.

I have no bad feelings towards Prince, I just don't like the new site design, the lack of good on-line offerings, and the religious b.s.

Even if Prince believes that music should be free, it cant be unless erverything else that is needed to make it is free. Musicians want to get paid. Instruments cost money. Electricity isnt free. A motherfucker got has to eat. Its hard to play guitar with no clothes (I've tried).
Even websites are not free.

Prince said it should be free - he didnt say that it was going to be free. As far as I am concened, there has been some free music. I have my Days of Wild CD from the celebrations and the mp3 files that were in addition to the promised member downloads. Greedy punks dont talk about those.

It always seemed to me like he wanted to be free to do what he wanted with his music rather than he wanted to work without getting paid.

i don't think "free music" is the same as "free the music". i have no problem paying for an item. i would not go to a record store or furniture store and expect anything in there for free. although, i also think the idea of charging "fams" (short for family?) a fee just to have access to purchase music seems a bit wild. lots of people have fan clubs (and that's what this is, regardless of what p wants to call it) and they are free. the services they provide can then be paid for (such as tickets, cds, posters, etc). $25 just to get into the store seems greedy to me. i did join, as i have every other year, but this is the first time i've grown to regret it. it just doesn't seem worthwhile anymore. i love prince's music. i absolutely love it! that said, i think i'm over prince, the man. i love him and his work but not necessarily his work ethics.

Well, www.starwars.com is charging $19.95 for their new "Hyperspace" version of their web site and you get nothing but news and access to their web store. I think more and more sites will be charging these 'access' fees. It's not free to staff and maintain a website, just ask the org moderators.

I joined last year - got tickets to the NYC show, but was disappointed with the cds. Like alot of the others, I'm taking a 'wait and see' approach this year. NEWS doesn't excite me enough to join and frankly I'd prefer to buy it in a store. All of the screw ups in the past are another reason I haven't joined - it's hard to seperate the man and his business acumen when you're supposedly dealing directly with his club. Finally, we all change over time - I don't find Prince's current music to be very exciting and I listen to a much wider variety of music now than in my youth.

I was a member in Year One, and it was great! But as soon as I saw a change in the club I stayed away.

PLUS, every time I order something it gets messed up.

Besides what do club members really get that I can't find in the store later? I want only the music, the website I can do without.

1: i dont see the point in charging 2 access news & other features ie; graphics,merchandise/music store etc... which other Rtists have on their sites for free.

2: cant afford it right now (tho it is relatively cheap,$40 is still a bit 2 pay 4 me right now)

3: i will buy N.E.W.S. when it comes out in stores here the day b4 my birthday :wOOt:
(hopefully the DVD is also out in retail here... if not i will have 2 get a member 2 snag me a copy from NPGMC retail if it is cheap)

4: any downloads i will get later-on from someone (i know this isnt ethical but oh well...)

5: if prince ends up touring & soundcheck/good seats r a privalliage then i will end up joining just cuz that's a one in a lifetime opportunity down here i dont wanna miss.

I'm not a member and never will be.I think it's unfair to charge just to visit a site.If he wants me to buy his music he better put a free page at least advertising the product, and then i'll happily buy something, til then it's P2P for me (as it was for year one).

Besides i don't like the religious overtones that seemingly infest the NPGMC, i'm just not interested in that at all.
