news on NEWS from eric leeds in the chat, when asked if he had worked with prince recently, he said he had worked on an instrumental project in feb which he was told will be out soon.
later he was asked how long it took to perform NEWS, he said, it was as long as the cd is, prince just counted in, gave akey and told them to play...so i guess that kind of gives us a bit more of an idea what to expect. . . . If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

He said N.E.W.S. would only be avaible thru the website.
Didn't know release date - just soon. He called N.E.W.S. "adventurous". He was asked who else played on N.E.W.S. but he never answered the question.

Sounds very "Bitches Brewish" to me!! I can't wait! (Bitches Brew was a Miles Davis album from 1969 often looked apon as the first jazz-rock-fusion album) [This message was edited Thu Jun 5 17:13:54 PDT 2003 by toejam] Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

Sounds like they really put a lot of work into it..lol. Prince is down to releasing his jam sessions now. That's cool I guess, but I'd prefer some real msuic that he spends more than one hour working on. But as I said before, he's given us 20 years of great music, so if he wants to take it easy and "coast" from here on in, I can't blame him. He probably has other priorities now. I wish him the best, but that doesn't mean I am still going to keep buying his new stuff if it doesn't interest me. But he'll always be great live and that should keep money coming in as long as he feels like touring.

The first thing that got me listening to Prince was how well planned and full of musical twists and turns his songs were. New sounds still being introduced halfway through the song, an unexpected bridge here and there, etc... Nowadays he just "gives a key" and then repeats the first riff/hook he can come up with until the end (except for some often tedious solos). That works ok live but is sooo boring on a studio recording. Actually I´m pretty sure that´s the way he made Xpectation too. I kind of like it for what it is, but I would never compare it to ANY of his "proper" albums.

I think it is pretty cool that Prince "jams" once in a while... Like in an aftershow... LETITGO!!! "Goodness will guide us when love is inside of us... The Force will be with you, always"

TonyC - in my opinion, some of Prince's best work (The Undertaker, the Neon Rendezvous boot, every soundcheck during the ONA tour) has been Prince "jamming" just like Eric described. that's what jazz musicians do...and Prince has ALWAYS been a jazz musician, despite the objections of the unenlightened.
he's not ONLY a jazz artist, though - that's part of what's so fucking amazing about him...talk about versatility!!! the snippet from EAST sounds extremely innovative, and i would sure as hell rather he release something like this than something along the lines of "high" or "newpowersoul" or "rave"...or even "trc" for that matter. plus Mister Madhouse Eric Leeds is on this joint, so you KNOW it'll be slammin'. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I completely agree with you on all the above. Hey, I was listening to Rave in the car last weekend and I just had to chance cd's cause I couldn't stand listening to it 1 second longer. It was about time Prince started releasing themed albums like "One Nite Alone" [piano], TRC and Xpectation and for that matter "Cnote". How many times can you do the same old trick before it gets boring? In the old days, he always had enough ground to cover which he had not tread extensively before. But now, since about 1996 his pop albums are just same old same old. Emancipation/Rave/NewPowerSoul. All fun albums, but not really anything new or different. After "The Truth" I have been yearning for these type of real, raw, organic albums that follow a theme rather than just try to cover the whole scope of musical styles in a timespan of 60 minutes. Now, he's delivering them. And I think that's absolutely the best way to go. It would still be the coolest thing ever if he would do a double album with this new band. It would no doubt be an amazing thing. But for now, I'm happy with him doing instrumental and experimental stuff. It was long overdue and I am sooo up for that ride now. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
