hey ricco..what are the new tracks like?

anyone else who was at the front please feel free to answer this question as well smile

let's put aside all the org/npgmc politics and just talk about the music for a bit.

so, can someone please tell us something about these new songs? or about how they were "previewed"? did y'all see prince? was it announced? did they play them over the speakers in the club, or what?

PLEASE!!! smile

thanks.

well, RiccoTheArtist and some other orgers were supposedly at this club in Minneapolis last night (The Source?), where prince "debuted" 2 new tracks, according to the Club.

i just find it odd that whoever heard them isn't talking about the songs...i know if *i* heard 'em, y'all would get a description at least!! smile

so prince...next time you wanna debut some tracks..there's a goth bar here in columbus, just down the street from me. you should stop in! just lemme know when yer coming b/c bars aren't really my scene ordinarily wink

LaVisHh posted a bit more details in the NPGMC's MemberConnection forum. I'd be giving a hugely detailed report had I not left at midnight.

As of midnight, there were around 30-40 poeple there, some DOW CDs and a One Night Alone boxset were given away and some pictures were taken. Most people in attendance were having a fabulous time, but I have to admit, it just wasn't my thing. There was a sparse attendance at best (the club wasn't even a quarter full) and maybe 10 people dancing on the dance floor at any given time. Now, The Front isn't a huge place by any means, but 10 people just don't fill up a dance floor.
The DJ would play a few Prince songs in a row then a few hip-hop type stuff in between, all on CD, no vinyl. I'm not a hip-hop fan at all and the Prince he was playing were not my favorites either (TMBGITW and Greatest Romance dance remixes) except for maybe a few tunes and I just wasn't moved to dance. What I DID find hysterical though was that the DJ kept putting on his headphones and acting like he was mixing or something. I kept laughing, wondering what the hell he was doing since all he had to do was read a tracklist and select the correct track number. lol So anyway, by midnight I was ready for bed. As we walked out there was a paisley park secuirty guy talking to the bouncer, so maybe that should've been a hint for us to stick around a little longer, but I just thought maybe he came down to check out the night.

That's my report. It's too bad I missed the new tracks, but I was ready to go when I did, so no big thing. That's Prince for you.

The DJ down at the Front is usually pretty cool about playing different Prince jams that you don't hear. When ever I request something he usually plays it. As far as everytime I have been down there it really doesn't get to busy or crowded, usually a starting point for most people who are going out that night.
When I do go down there I enjoy it because I never get to hear Pheromone played at any bars.
Interested in what direction the new tracks are written in.

I was at The Front the entire night and yes Prince DID show up and yes 2 new tracks were played. Here's what went down:

Around midnight a white limo pulled up in front of The Front. One of the Paisley Park security guys got out of the limo and started talking with the Front's security. They pulled up a table and chair right next to the door and next thing I knew Prince was sitting in the chair with Mani sitting on his lap. The security guy walked over to the DJ and handed him a CD. The first track that came on after that I didn't really pay much attention to because I was in shock to see Prince sitting in a club that I go to quite often. The next track was called Musicology, I think. It was very upbeat and funky. Definitly good to dance too! Prince only stayed for maybe 20 minutes and then was out the door.

Don't ask me what he was wearing as I don't really pay much attention to what people wear but I can say that he did not have an afro as others have said.

That was that. any other questions?

um, ricco, do you have fucking ears? what did the songs sound like? jesus fucking christ.

tmbgitw remix? the greatest romance remix? ewww...

what's the point of him debuting tracks in a club like this when apparently everyone is just drooling over him in a zombified trance and doesn't pay any damn attention ANYway.

Isn't it actually hard as hell to avoid mentioning what the
song sound like? You must be really trying very hard not to
mention any specifics.

I guess, to someone who'se never heard it, one might say
"sign of the times, well that's an album that sounds like
...like sooound, and it has a nice cover and the artwork
is cool too and there were like 2 discs in the package".

so sad is right.

and then just to add to the overall enjoyment of the members, ricco and the other fabulous peeps who actually HEARD the songs apparently refuse to give out any information as to what they sound like, apart from "they the bomb" and "it was very upbeat and funky."

RiccoTheArtist, could you at least list a couple of your favorite prince songs or albums so that we can get some sort of idea as to what you consider "the bomb"? i looked on your org profile, but instead of any of that fun information you have some poem.

sigh.

Ricco, it's SAD as HELL (i can SAY it on here!!!) that prince is currently CHARGING members for a MUSIC club which currently has NO NEW MUSIC.

the only song which briefly WAS made available was pulled after the first few days and just for offering to send it to another member, you can get your membership suspended (even though paisley park says in U Tell Us that you can't share "OUTSIDE the club", which is a totally different thing - gotta love the consistency).

I don't think anyone would mind describing the music more but most people i talk to say they were so surprised Prince and Mani came that they didn't focus on the first song. Other than saying the music was great to dance to, I'm not a musician so I can't talk technically about it. Sorry.

I can understand that people would want to know but I can't understand the continued negativity about it all. Those of us who were there did come on the sites and say something as soon as we got home. Different people had different vantage points so they mention a little somethin based on their experience. some of the people there I guess don't come on the org, maybe don't have home computers I don't know. But why keep faulting the people who just happened to be there and had the thrill of seeing Prince and Mani and hearing a couple of brief songs? Prince has shown up to lots of places through the years - unexpectedly - did people get so up in arms toward the attendees just because they happened to be somewhere that Prince went to - maybe a sports event or a restaurant? I just don't get it.

Seems to me it's just because there's an NPG site. For some crazy reason seems like ever since it came online there's been a war goin on - why? If some people enjoy NPG site - cool. If some people don't - cool. -- that's each person's business; everybody's entitled to their opinion and to do their own thing in life. But why all the negativity?

HolyWine,

Please don't take this as an insult, because I don't intend it that way. However, I think you are being paranoid and unnecessarily defensive. So you were there as well? Did you post somewhere about what the songs sounded like, or did you just do that in your post above?

Of course I understand people being excited about Prince being there...but I also gotta say that I find it kind of sad that Prince chooses to preview his new tracks on a bunch of people who are too star-struck to even notice them. I thought he was against the whole idol worship thing.

Although obviously seeing a celebrity (especially Prince!) is exciting, I find it very interesting that of the 4 or 5 people who have now confirmed their presence, only Ricco (they are the bomb) and way2funky (2nd song was apparently called Musicology and was very danceable) posted anything about the MUSIC!

I mean, y'all are FROM Minneapolis, right? (I guess you could have driven in from somewhere nearby). Haven't you seen Prince at least a handful of times by now?

[Oh, way2funky...thank you very much for the information!]

I mean, the lack of focus on music is my biggest complaint with the current incaration of the site, and now I'm starting to see where it comes from.

Nobody is asking for a lyric sheet, just SOME information, and people are a tad sensitive b/c they paid $25 and 6 weeks later have no music to show for it. Please try to understand that.

Ricco? Anything else you could possibly add to your rather extensive post? Aside from being "the bomb", can you remember anything else about the songs? Heck, make something up - it'd be more interesting than this.

Lavish - I heard you were there as well. Did you get a chance to hear the songs?

CarrieMPLS provided a great description of the night in general, the only one on here at all really...but she left before Prince showed, not knowing he would pop in. Therefore, she didn't hear the songs.

HolyWine, I think that some people are starting to feel like y'all are purposefully not sharing any information so as to protect your "exclusivity". I hope I'm wrong, but if so I don't know why Ricco for example (who CLAIMS to have great hearing) can't remember anything about the songs except the fact that they were the bomb.

Maybe you have to think first before you write something about fucking ears. It is totaly not necessary to be negative and be sorry afterwards. The people were just in awe that Prince was there. That's more special than a song that can be listened in the future from cd.

dualboot, what are you talking about "be negative and then apologize afterwards?" i haven't apologized, and i don't intend to.

i think it's telling that some of these faMmy people can't say ANYthing about the songs themselves...just how prince's hair was styled.

you better believe that if i had been there i would be able to provide some sort of description of the MUSIC. of course i would have been excited to see Prince show up...but y'all are in minneapolis, right? it's not like you live in topeka and prince showed up at a cowboy bar.

i find it arrogant that despite repeated inquiries, Certain Artists can't say anything about what the songs sounded like. i think it is quite appropriate in this type of a situation to say "do you have fucking ears?"

i wasn't trying to be an asshole...i was sincerely concerned that his moonwraps had somehow cut off the circulation to his ears, and they had fallen off a while back without him noticing.

jeez, try to help someone out... hrmph

Ok, someone explain this to me...

There were 20 people in a club and then Prince just showed up. Was this a preplanned event by some Prince fans or did some org members just happen to be there? I am so confused.

Does this club have "Prince" night or something. and obviously this is all taking place in Minneapolis right? we're not talking about LA are we?

Why is it so hard for people to understand that Prince showing up with 2 (probably UNFINISHED songs, might I add - which is why he's over the years taken them to clubs to "test" before releasing them) songs, where people had been dancing all night and having fun with each other - that we simply cannot remember the song/s?

I don't remember it! I heard the song one time, the first one, I was outside the club... the second one, I went inside and danced to. No secret that I can't remember anything except that the word Musicology was repeated throughout. Details? LOL, I was dancing... I wasn't soaking in the song for a report.

If you all don't know me by now, that I have answered many questions you have had over time, to think that there is some sort of consipiracy because we cannot remember a song or two we heard only once, is mind boggling.

Relax! Prince has done this from the very beginning of his career... he takes tunes to local clubs and plays them so he can see how the crowd reacts. The songs may or may not be finished, you know?

Nobody got any special privies... biggrin

Instead... consider it great news that he is working on music that we will all be able to own when he releases it.

Woah, what's up with the threats? Methinks you are taking this a bit personally, as this is a pretty tame thread...

As explained, people were only getting frustrated because the consistent reply was "the songs rocked" with no further explanation. People just wanted some info, that's all. Instead they were repeatedly brushed off...

TruthBtold started an excellent thread yesterday, however that should take care of this whole silly mess and he kindly responded to many questions and provided some full details to those who had been asking...

Not personally, just a reminder to stop the name-calling. The thread should be discussing the original topic, not attacking people for not being able to remember a song or two.

It's not about being tame, but about controlling the personal attacks.
