How to download the videos... Hi all,

Ive also worked out how to do it with DAP which wasnt working before (it was just saving links to the movies).
If you are having problems just access the site in html mode and then, when you get to the movie link you want (eg low, med, high) right click and open in new window and the files should save in DAP...be warned though, they are large!!!

Very handy! I just look at the properties of the video when it is playing then cut and paste the URL in a new browser, it prompts me for my password twice then downloads into the full Windows Media program. when it is done downloading I just save the media. All done.

No one's answered about any Spyware in HiDownload. Is there any?

I just take the TV out from my video card (Matrox G400 Max) and the soundcard audio outs and feed them into my VCR. The Matrox TV out can do fullscreen video, letterboxed in the case of the NPGMC videos. At the full 'Hi' (1.5 Mbps) bitrate the videos look quite good.

you do not need DAP or any additional program! All you have to do is track down the actual movie file and the names and the web directory it's under and save it. For example: right click on this link and click 'SAVE TARGET AS'... hmmm?

probably being really daft, but what is DAP? RIP

What is Spyware? Is that something where the site that you downloaded the information from can look at the files on your computer?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Nah you aint being daft ..I didnt know until about 4pm today.
DAP is a download manager called Download Accelerator Plus. What it seems to do (in this case anyway) is get teh NPG files direct from wherever they are stored instead of feeding them 'live'. It then saves tehm to your computer like the good ol' download days of NPGMC. It didnt work for me at first but, when I went in to the NPGMC site under teh HTML option, it worked like a dream. Spyware,to teh best of my knowledge,is fairly harmless...it just takes info about your computer (Internet provider number etc) and sometimes passes it on to other people...a bit like teh way you get junk mail...I mayb wrong though

--Don got one on you... using a video converter and dvd authoring application, I was able to put the videos on a dvd AND IT PLAYS! And yes, the dvd is divided into various chapters for the different videos. Pretty sweet, but it was a pain in the ass to put together, especially with the Prince image on the title screen. If you were a member of NPGMC Year 1 you already have complete versions of all of these.

I didn't bother to look last night when i was in the room.

is there a tool somewhere to convert these wmv files into MPEG4 files so they can play on a Mac?

From the Windows perspetive one possible solution would be to use the Stoik coverter (http://www.stoik.com/products/morphman/mm30_svc_demo.htm) to decode the wmv to an uncompressed avi which can then be encoded into mpeg1, mpeg2, mpeg4 or whatever. TMPGEnc (http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_download.html) is a good encoder. You will need a ton of disk space to hold the temporary avi (approx 14GB/hour of video) and a fast processor to keep encode times reasonable. I've never really gone from wmv --> mpeg; I typically encode my home videos to DVD (mpeg2) so I don't have any direct experience. Maybe someone else knows a cleaner way, but this will work. Good luck. javier
