lotusflower.com numbers

so i was playing around with a fun web analytics program today. i decided to type in lotusflow3r.com.

LF's peak was in march of 2009 with unique visitors of approx 45,000. the next month dropped to about 30,000. then, from august 09 to the end, it never got above 7500 unique visitors per month! in fact, with the low months around 4200, the average was around 5000 per month for the last 7 months of its existence.

i then ran u2.com, which is a $50 annual membership and all you really get is a cd and some web only video content. u2.com is consistently around 100,000 unique visitors per month and even hit a high of 300,000 for a few months last fall.

just thought i would share the compare.

I'm surprised U2's is $50! Maybe Prince wasn't so far off base?

U2 dot com membership gives access to every recording, video, exclusive tour video and updates, fan interaction, basically everything that lotusflow3r hinted at but never delivered.

The comparison is apples and nothing.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I would hazard a guess that the higher numbers in the first couple months correlated with TV and CD promotion curiosity and not memberships. Those hits were probably just recorded at the splash page and not indicative of actual sign-ups. I'm thinking most folks went to the site, saw the $77 recession-unfriendly price and no clues as to promised content except the 3 albums, then went to Target.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Yeah, I think we'd estimated 5,000 members, so an average of 5,000 over the last few months bears that out.

That's $385,000 in gross revenue for Prince. He probably netted $250K - $300K, depending on what the developers charged.

According to some, that's like $5 for you or I, which would explain why Prince lost interest in it so fast.

According to others, Prince is broke so he was bummed out Lotu$flower didn't solve all his financial woes and thus gave up on it.
