Because in that whole time period Prince hasn't done anything worthy of praise.

Get the fuck outta here. biggrin Seriously? You don't like anything Prince has done since 1998? What are you doing with your time and your life then? Living it in reverse?

I mean, I get that there is a lot of Prince shit to disagree with throughout the years. However, to disagree with Prince as violently and as often as you do, and also not enjoy anything since 1998? That seems like a real sad Prince fan existence. I mean, doesn't it make you tired to not enjoy any Prince thing since 1998, yet spend so many hours playing around THE Prince fan site?

Don't get me wrong, I am glad that your are around...but a bit shocked that over a decade has gone by and you cannot find even a little bit of joy in being a Prince fan.

Prince put himself out to the public eye and got everyone to go along with his elaborate digital interactive media extravaganza scheme. He deserves every bit of criticism he gets, everytime a spotlight is focused on his presence. Even if it's harsh, unfair and blunt in tone.

Exactly, you can't have it both ways... if people are going to laud him with accolades for his pioneering use of the internet, then he needs to be called on his recently shitty endeavor. If you're going to get credit, then you're going to get the debit too.

None of this is surprising to any of us who have followed Prince's career for a significant period of time. And none of this is surprising for people who have done business with him.

Along with the lawsuits, failure to pay his taxes, and failure to pay his engineers, this is all feeding the meme of a self-indulgent artist with questionable business ethics. Someone, who when faced with fulfilling his legal and/or ethical obligations, responds with "chill" or "cut it out."

Lotusflow3r sucked big time. Content, design, accessibility, and so on and so on. And I say that as someone who purchased a membership.

The site was distant, dark, disconnected, ungrounded, unwelcoming. The man who once pioneered using the 'net to reach people (who remembers BedIScream??) has retreated. For him the 'net is just another dumping ground for whatever he's selling (and he's not even selling a whole lot).

Sure is nice to see a balanced, adult observation around here once in awhile.

Now Clay is in the process of handing over LotusFlow3r.com files to a new Prince representative who Clay describes as “me 2.0.”

So this explains why I can't get into the site at all? Is anyone else having problems getting into the site?

No, it's all running fine. New videos have been added, too. Some 80s rehearsals and even professionally shot videos of the complete 21 nights in London.

Just type "Lotusflow3r" into the .org search box in the upper right corner and you will be directly taken to the new galaxy.

Prince was disappointed with the number of people who joined, and let the project die. Simple as. Many of us didn't join because we've been fucked around by him before. So there you go fams. The reason lotusfuckup failed was because many fans were once bitten, twice shy.

Did Prince try to salvage the situation by adding exclusive content to tempt new members? Nope. He let it die. As 'punishment' for the bad turnout, he punished those who joined.

It's simple, give us a product and we will buy. I don't buy purple promises any more. They're worthless.

Plenty of them are. Or at least hire decent people to do that for them. Trent Reznor has been doing this for ages, for instance.

No, that's just Prince. Most other artists know it's a wise investment to spend on their staff.

I haven't been a fan in a long while. (Then again, Prince left the building around the end of 1995/beginning of 1996.) There's been plenty of joy because every now and then some great old tune surfaces.

And there's some joy to be had in seeing Prince screw up again and again. Schadenfreude, sure. But he's bringing it all on himself.

No contracts in Prince world, that way he can royally fuck you and you have no legal comeback.

But there is a contract that Prince has with fans. If you read the agreement for lotusflow3r, it tells you not to expect anything for your money. Seriously. read the agreement before signing up for a new Prince web site.

And this sums up Prince's attitude to his fans and contracts, how can he say, pay me your £ but don't expect anything for it, then Prince starts suing when people are downloading his music/concerts/bootlegs/videos for free, well Prince, i may take what you produce, but don't expect any £ from me, thats my contract with u.

Schadenfreude for those who don't know:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w...adenfreude

The Buddhist concept of mudita, "sympathetic joy" or "happiness in another's good fortune", is the opposite of schadenfreude.[13][14] Alternatively, envy, which is unhappiness in another's good fortune, could be considered the counterpart of schadenfreude.

A New York Times article in 2002 cited a number of scientific studies of schadenfreude, which it defined as "delighting in others' misfortune." Many such studies are based on social comparison theory, the idea that when people around us have bad luck, we look better to ourselves. Other researchers have found that people with low self-esteem are more likely to feel schadenfreude than are people who have high self-esteem

So I was right Bart. It is just that you are envious of Prince.

While LF might not have been the brilliant thing it was promised it was not a complete failure. There are still some who will continue to subscribe to a Prince site! While you might not like anything he's done since 1996, there are enough that think otherwise!

Everyone's allowed to voice a dissenting opinion, however when one does so continuously, and in turn, turns that opinion on anyway who disagrees with them, for the no. of years Skywalker mentioned, then one wonders why you're here.

So thanks for coming out the closet with your honesty. You have answered our questions with your "schadenfreude" where you "delight in someone's misfortune." Not that it wasn't obvious but at least you say something about yourself instead of Prince.

Although Prince takes up 0.01 of your time, he definitely seems to take up 100% of your passion.

As a professional Clay shouldn't have released this statement anyway. We would never have known who the web developer was, Prince would never have said and Clay could saved himself some negative publicity. Which makes me wonder, did the automatic billing "mistake" happen accidentally?

Clay wasn't busy as he wasn't getting anything from Prince to upload and the fact is, the fan sites "lit up" when they were automatically charged for a second year, not for anything else. So "he didn’t realize that their billing service had activated the automatic renewals"....? Well considering there was no other work going on on the site, maybe that was the one thing he should have taken care of to prevent disgruntled LF members from becoming any unhappier! He doesn't say it was an IT error, he says, "he didn't realise....."

I take it Clay is very much the marketing hard sell guy and Prince couldn't handle it. As much as everyone wants it, Prince is just not that commercially inclined these days.

Clay wanted input, he didn't get it. Though it's not right, I kind of undertand why he didn't reply to the zillions of emails to cancel membership.

However, as everyone gets a WELCOME email when joining a site, the least that could have been done was a GOODBYE And THANKS email when it was known the site would close.

That is common courtesy.

It amazes me that even after this article, and after all the shenanigans with the website, people are still saying Prince can't be culpable for any of it. Clearly, he had at least SOMETHING to do with it. People will believe what they want to believe, though, and I'm sure even if Prince straight up said "I intentionally stole from fans," they would believe he was somehow misquoted.
=0P
PS. Then again, as one who bought my lifetime NPGMC membership less than two months before it folded, I may be slightly bitter.

the thing that REALLY bothers me now in all this-now we're here, knowing that Prince IS responsible FULLY for this fiasco...man I'm kinda shocked-saddened and a bit angry to be honest. Clearly he punished me-and everyone else that bothered to join. Charming.....

i said wayyyy back that it was strange he gave the site zero shout outs at any gig last year. None

now.....

he's passed on the files.....W-H-A-T?????

surely to goodness even Prince can't see a way back from this online. Not for a long time at least. I was chilled to all the lotus stuff but the obvious fuck yall from P really winds me up. So as i've said before-the best way to say fuck you back is to download the next whatever he does from wherever-so long as its free

Even if you signed up the day it was closed, the site doesn't owe you anything. The Terms Of Agreement specifically say that they can close the site at any time without notice.
