I got it for free. Anywho, do you know where the interview is on the site, Greg? LOL, no. I haven't been to the site in a week or so. All I know is what I read here. | |

----- He re- recorded it for the fest since it is not same version as the unreleased version that the public should not have heard in the first place. Not really a lie to the masses who really could less about how old the song is. | |

I am sorry, but Prince did not write this song for Montreux unless he was a psychic in 1989. I have this song on an album that was recorded in 1989 in Paisley Park, the album was never on sale or authorised for sale. Recorded with Miles Davis and also featuring the track "We can Funk" for those whi know this awesome track. On this album, "In a large room with no lights" is actually entitled "Welcome to the Rat Race".Prince has written this song just for Montreux: | |

I guess, neither did the guys that run Lotusflow3r.com. As I said in a previous post, the song was originally recorded in 1989 at Paisley Park Studios with Miles Davis. I have it on an unreleased album and on it the song is entitled "Welcome to the Rat Race". So I don't know what Prince is trying to make us believe, but the song is actually 20 years old. | |

So I don't know what Prince is trying to make us believe, but the song is actually 20 years old. 1986. No Miles Davis involvement. Old bootlegs always called it Welcome To/2 The Ratrace but the correct title has always been In A Large Room with No Light. I think they just mean that this new version was recorded specially for Montreux, that's all. Probably just lost in translation. Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad. | |

That's where the confusion lies, most likely. And we had an interesting discussion on the title of the song a few weeks ago. ASCAP had Welcome 2 The Ratrace in it's database, but no In A Large Room With No Light. http://prince.org/msg/7/313078 Funny that Prince has now dropped the Ratrace verse entirely. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. | |

We recorded this song rather fast for the Montreux Jazz Festival. The song gives an idea of what we're going to do in the future. The new projects will be more open, more jazzy. It's a kind of free form. It will be always different, it will be never the same. - Good news. I like Prince´s jazzy side. I hope it has something fresh in the future. | |

Thanks for the translation incredibleD I'm interested in this part though, I think compared to the original, this version sounds completely controlled and quite strict in it's arrangement. Paradoxically, I think the original is really 'free form'. That being said, I love the fact that he's revisited such a cool track - now how about a release on CD b/w the original?? | |
