The ONA Live Aftershow disc..... what's you're honest opinion? Hi.
I just wanted to know what everyone thinks of the Aftershow disc? I think it could have been a lot better. With the exception of Joy In Repetition, We Do This, and Alphabet Street (which are all excellent) I was a little bit disappointed. I was looking forward to the aftershow disc more than the other 2 discs but a lot of the songs aren't even recogniseable from the originals. I'm not against a band jamming by any means, especially funk bands but I think it's something you need to see more than hear. I think the rest of the box set including the One Nite Alone Piano album is excellent though. What do you guys think?

Honestly...I really did not like the Musiq part. He murdered his own song...did I miss something or was If You Want Me To Stay missing? Also, I would kill for Joy in Repetition to do done in whole. I hate when anybody does anything as a medley.

I love Peach, although I wish it had been in there as an extended ending to the original rather than a jam in it's own right (like it was performed in London). Also 2 Nigs is fantastic!
The medleys do drag the whole set down a little, especially 'Free' - that was turning out to be the best version I'd ever heard, and it just stopped! But at least it's a true reflection of the live show The one thing I really wish had been on the set is the extended version of Strollin'. Oh well. I know u people worthless scum give no heart but wrath of insults a brain-driven wave of destruction your bite is worse than your vocabulary. Shame on you all of you. Go feed your pigs coward.

I am very disappointed by it also. I KNOW there were many songs out there during the aftershows that really would have captured the energy better. In particular, Calhoun Square from House of Blues in LA. It was scathing. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I really don't like it that much.
I also wish Calhoun Square was on it. Kari *************************************************

i love the aftershow CD. The jams are excellent and i disagree that they are better seen than heard. i don't like the George Clinton part (he sounds beat down) and Musiq sucks period. But from track 4 on it's a non-stop party. So free-flowing and exciting. Are there better aftershows out there? maybe. but this one will do just fine for now.

I was really looking forward to Peach, and I honestly don't think you can call that track Peach really. Calhoun Square would have been great. I've got a soundcheck version of it and it's superb.
"If you want me to stay" - again got my hopes up.

I think sat this set will be in my cd player for a long time; probably this box will be a discovery, liked it just to be with prince releases; and thats great. Henrik; the dane from sweden.

I loved the disc, and the whole box -- it's one of Prince'sd best releases in my opinion -- but yeah, I wish there had been more structure and lyrics to some of the songs, like Girls and Boys -- the version from Tokyo with Shake at the end was ten times better...but that's just minor bitching, i loved the disc. Joy and Dorthy were both great!

The Aftershow CD is absolutely fantastic IMHO.

First of all...nothing is better than being there live. You cannot capture the electricity of seeing Prince live on CD, and to expect that is IMHO unrealistic.
That said, I love this disk and have been wearing it out. Like most of the discs I have of his they get better and better after each litsen as I get drawn deeper into the music and can identify the genius in the details.

There was a dream about the first prince's live cd. I was dreaming prince make his first live cd with only new tracks or cover.
I think the aftershow cd is near to this dream: prince get some of his old songs and re-make them, jamming on it, and making new music coming from old songs. the tracks from 4 to the end of the cd are a very nice piece of music. It remind me the end of the last ahdio show, with very nice versions of question of u, curting time and the undertacker: prince playing, jamming, and no more hit singles to song.

I like the aftershow disc best -- to me, it does capture the improvisation-filled atmosphere of an aftershohw. Granted, I have not heard Calhoun Square or any of the other tunes from other aftershows, but I like the disc. Musiq could go away and I'd like it even more. The entire box is GREAT!
I think one of the best Prince releases since 'Sign Of The Times' / 'Lovesexy. About the aftershow disc: the Musiq part sucks! Sorry 4 that, but without the Musiq part, there would have been more space on the cd for a great Prince song! Prince & The NPG played so many other GREAT songs during the American and European aftershows. For example, 'Calhoun Square', 'Beautiful Strange', 'The Question Of U', 'Whole Lotta Love', 'Dolphin', ...!!! One more thing...just enjoy your funky ONA Live box, it´s our 1st official Prince live recording. Smokin'... VinoDaMusica: *THE*SOUND*OF*ROTTERDAM*

It's terrific. After all, it has one of my favorite live trax - "Joy in Repetition."
Does anyone prefer, as I do, the 'Indianapolis' version of Xenophobia with the "You've been randomly selected to be searched...Can I touch your back..." intro? "When they tell me 2 walk a straight line, I put on crooked shoes"

I love he whole thing, except track 3...
Listening to it right now. i could use 10 more discs from Prince that are this conistent. What was the last Prince CD where you didn't have to jump up and skip at least 1 or 2 tracks?

Disc 3=Great work on the guitar!

Joy in Repetition, Alphabet St., and Dorothy Parker r awesome, but the rest ...
Oh, and will someone please put George Clinton outta his misery? Two syllables, GC: REHAB.

I think it's tight. I especially like the extended jamming on Peach.
Prince has alot of funny comments throughout the CD. "We're gonna jam for 20 minutes" during Peach, or something to that effect. Or the "I like country too!" when he's jamming during Alphabet Street. Or the "I wanna sing but this is too funky" during the 2 Nigs Jam! How about when Prince mocks out that girl's voice on Family Name? Rebecca I think. His humor is very sarcastic.

Just looking at the tracklist, I can say that it could have been a little longer. I think the song selection is cool, but at 55min., they had room to add a few more tracks. Like someone just said, "Calhoun Square" would have fit, and made sense.
Also, I was at the Dallas concert and aftershow. Both shows were supperb, and Dallas showed him SO MUCH love. I think Dallas was perhaps overlooked by mistake (and I'm from Houston). I wish he would have used "Anna Stesia" from the Big D instead of L.A., cause in my opinion, it was better/fuller. And at the aftershow, there was an instrumental that sounded like a "Xenophobia" cut, and the much discussed "Touch" that could have been included. But hey, he didn't ask me and I am still happy with the release. I think maybe this was his idea of a complete show that he would have liked. I try to approach it as though I had never heard a bootleg. It makes it easier to accept disc 3 objectively... p.s. Face it, nothing will ever beat "Small Club"...

Would've liked to hear "Beautiful Strange," "Dolphin," and/or "Calhoun Square" on there.
That being said "Joy in Repetition" just puts me in a trance. If I'm looking to zone out I'll definitely put that on. And it's cool that he doesn't try to edit himself when he says "Nigs." P shouldn't do that guest stuff on his vids of cd all the time. He's good enough 'alone'. GC and Music could be replaced by beautiful strange, calhounsquare.etc Ich bin bei der Neue Kraft Bewegung

It would be perfect without Musiq. That song really kills the mood. I am going to burn a cd of this without that track so I don't have to skip it everytime I want to listen to it.

I'd just like to say one thing in favour of Musiq. It's not so much the song itself that ruins it (for me), it's the fact that his vocals are way on top of everything else and with hardly any effects. But that's one of the risks of using PA mixes, they don't always sound great when listened back to under different circumstances. I too don't really understand why they included this song on disc 3, since on 98% of the other songs in the entire set, Scottie (Prince's PA mixer) did an amazing job! From the engineer that knows...

The videos and the live recordings of 'I Would Die 4 U' (album & extended version),'Baby I'm A Star', 'Purple Rain', '4 The Tears In Your Eyes' and 'Power Fantastic' (have I forgotten any other live songs?) are official live stuff! And not 2 forget the 'Rave Un2 the year 2000' DVD and the 'Days Of Wild' cd. But do you understand my point of view? There's never been released a total live album!!!
