The NPG Trio: 2006 sessions?

Hi, y'all!

As somebody stated a little while ago, most of the material we can listen 2 on the Lotusflow3r album comes from an intense recording periodo back in 2006, when Prince, Michael Bland and Sonny Thompson reunited to put together new music.
Some of those songs (a total of about 13 or 14, can't remember) went into the Lotusflow3r, some others into other projects, e.g. 3121, the title track, comes from that recording session.

My question is: how many songs did the trio record back then and which ones are they?

Thank U for your cooperation, purpleheads!

biggrin

According to Michael B it was 2004. (SOURCE: Video interview on a thread somewhere around here?)

And as far as I know, it's never been confirmed as to how many tracks were recorded. We assume that it's all been cleaned out by now, but we don't know for sure.

I've read that they've gotten together in the studio several times since late 2004 - so it's not like it all came from one mammoth session or anything. So far these are the tracks that are confirmed to have come from those sessions:

3121
Planet Earth
From The Lotus
Colonized Mind
Love Like Jazz
Wall Of Berlin
Back 2 The Lotus

and possibly:
Guitar (Planet Earth album version)
Crimson And Clover
(not 100% sure about these ones - they could be Josh and Cora)

The other tracks on Lotusflow3r are attributed to Josh and Cora according to the album credits. And there's nothing else on 3121 or Planet Earth (other than the title tracks and possibly "Guitar") that sounds to me like Sonny and Michael.

Well not according to Michael B.

There were 11-12 tracks recorded in one session in 2004 (in 3 & 1/2 hours in fact!).

Michael B. and Sonny T. are also credited on Támar's Milk & Honey album, so some of those 11-12 tracks could have been for her album. nod

Unfortunately, it don't say exactly what Támar tracks they played on. Maybe Redhead STepchild? confused

Good point! Hadn't thought of that. Prince must have licked that bowl clean by now.cool

For me, the question now is; does anyone have any info on when the 'other' session(s) that appear on Lotusflow3r took place? (i.e. The tracks with the Dunhams)

That's right, could be that. I'd have to try and find that mega-rare item, that is Tamar's album cool

here's something to try.

Join the two Lotus tracks together using a wave editor.

As it's finishing, fade in the track 3121, all the vocal effects and guitar sounds are very similar and it could have been my favourite opening to a P album ever!!!!

indeed, 3121 fits very well. they must have been on the same original DAT.
as someone else noticed and posted, 3121 even begins with the distorted
vocals saying "from a lotus flower...."
