Dear Prince, I'm not dead ...

So why am I being asked to pay $77 for Prince's site when I already bought a lifetime membership at NPGMC? I tried logging in with my NPGMC info. and was surprised it didn't accept it or have my email addy registered. I then signed up with a new account only to have them try and charge my credit card. Yo, Prince -- a lot of us ain't dead and maybe you need to look up the definition of the word "lifetime." If not, we may start using your definition of the word when describing ourselves as "lifetime" fans. First $100 for a YEAR, than $25 more for a "lifetime" and now $77 above and beyond that? Ain't no way. I already plunked down $125 to have the right to give Prince even more money buying his online only CDs. Anyone else feel cheated?

The post was regarding NPGMC. But ok, anyway, we'll pretend. Let me try to make it more about Lotusflow3r then. Shouldn't those who already paid $125 and received a lifetime membership have their accounts transferred to lotusflow3r without having to pay for the privilege?

I hear you man ! I sincerely back you up on this - I do recall "lifetime" membership being mentioned in the previous sales pitch.

According to what many have posted about the fees from the previous, non-existing club, the membership fee for that was for the "lifetime" of that particular club. So that's basically what you paid for. The lotus site is a brand new site, altogether.

I was a member before, but it really doesn't bother me. Ok, so you're still alive. If Prince died, would you expect the club to still run because you are alive? You paid for the lifetime of the club, not the lifetime of yourself, Prince, or anyone else.

It might not be perfect but that's just how it is.

No. It's easy to understand. Prince ripped his fans off and other fans are willing to jump in and thank him for doing so. When you hear "lifetime membership" or "lifetime subscription" or "lifetime warranty" you don't think it's for the lifetime of the club, the magazine or the item under warranty. You wouldn't buy a toaster with a "lifetime warranty" and throw it out if it broke a week later, because that was the end of the toaster's life.

No other performer charges fans $100 for a year. Then another $25 for a "lifetime" membership. Then asks them AGAIN, for another $77. This is ridiculous. Prince fans defending this practice must be extremely wealthy or extremely naive.

i have been protesting the 77.00 fee also .... it has very lil to do with i am broke ... lol ... seriously i would muster up enuf doe to get a membership if i truly felt Prince would pony up something ... but ... to see videos ... or download a few songs ??? nah ...

if the 77.00 included a concert ticket i would even think about it ...

I don't care paying money 4 Prince music. If i found the content of the site 2 b satisfying like old NPGMC used 2 b in 2001, i'd gladly pay $10 a month if i was asked 2.

It's not the money that's a problem 2 me right now, it's the fact that the site's almost empty as far as i'm concerned.

Just because you didn't think that's what was meant doesn't mean it wasn't. Let that be a lesson to you to consider reading the terms and conditions of a site before you join!

Yeah, I do. Also, when we joined for the next to last year of NPGMC, we were all renewed for FREE. I do not, for the life of me, understand what the bitching is about.

Are you people brand new? Even if it were for a lifetime, Prince does this type of stuff ALL THE TIME and yet y'all act surprised when he does it.

Don't join. It is so simple. If I felt like someone was fucking me over, they would not get any more of my money. If people learned to let go of expectations when it comes to Prince, they'd be a lot happier.

I joined not knowing what I would get 7 years ago and if I get nothing more than kickass seats at a nearby show, then the 77 dollars is worth it to me. People spending money on what makes them happy are not fools.

And for all we know, the biggest bitchers joined anyway.

do you have any paper work that proves you as a fan were ripped off? can you obtain any? if you can then take action. if you agreed to the terms of agreement did you read them/the rules. I can't remember if I did can you. those are important things to take into consideration and websites cover there asses by having people agree to them with just the click of a mouse not even a signature. so if a buck twenty five is what you're pissed about have your people call Londell McMillan and or better yet file a small claims report with Judge Wapner for that is a miniscule amount to bicker over. Lifetime membership was for NPGMC's lifetime and if you type that site in the screen is black as in unactive as in not alive. geek

gather an army of disgruntled fans/fams (whatever) and sue him. Call Londell
McMillan. That's if he still represents him as an entertainment lawyer.Or call the local news to hear your cries and concerns.

get a petition going ...I think this might fall on deaf ears. neutral

I think the NPGMC site has more than enough grounds to say that some, not all violated the terms and or rules of that site. I say what the Prince camp/moderators were guilty of is the way the site was closed down.

I will speak for my self to say I received MORE than I thought the NPGMC would bring,merchandise-music-videos-celebrations headbang-Forums MEMBER CONNECTION 4 LIFE! lol CHAT-(where is Nesci_) pre-sales- front row tickets- MTV-special paying .25 cents for a concert and a party !(met Patti La belle) and the most priceless is the friends made 7 years later. And firstly Prince.Org being the primary integral part of this Prince experience. The internet trinity was/is Prince.Org-House Quake-NPGMC.

totally agree that this is old stuff - let it rest!

one thing, that wouldn't harm p in anyway might be, to reactivate the old drm-server and let the songs and vids, that was once bought, be able to play again.

and yes - lifetime in this context is sure the lifetime of the club.

and the example of the toaster - you got it wrong - the lifetime warranty for your toaster ends, when the company, that was producing your toaster doesn't exist any longer - whom could you make responsible for a reparation - no one - because the company isn't there anymore - as it is with the npgmc - even if it is a pitty!

Totally agree here. I have no intentions of paying for a "fan" club. He is already raking in the money with no overhead or record labels. Yet just another way to make money is all.

How about this:

Prince activates the DRM server for the old tracks for one week and one week only. There will be NO downloads offered - if you are missing the source files, you're out of luck. This will be a DRM-activation only, with one week for you to burn them to audio CD.

I'm sure even if he did this, another round of complaints would pop up . . . "I work 7 days a week, my computer is down, I'm out of CD-Rs . . ."
