Nonsense. ALL videos, zips etc are sent through ONE AND THE SAME PHP file. Downloading the WAV vs the MP3s doesn't make a difference, except in size (WAVs zip is approx 4 times the size of the MP3s zip), and the Mplsound WAV zip is STILL BROKEN as of now (24+ hours after launch).

I use Firefox and I sent my downloads via FlashGot to Free Download Manager, and I've had no issues with any of the ZIP files.

All videos can be downloaded to your HD as FLV files. Firefox + FlashGot -> Google is your friend. See also: http://prince.org/msg/13/302104 .

I'm curious what Prince thinks when he sees this, and all the trouble we've had to gain access to the site, does it make him laugh? Did he expect it?..

Do you really think he'd be laughing about this?!? He's probably madder than hell and I'd hate to be in the designer's shoes right now.

Prince isn't a sys admin, he gets shown some pretty graphics and is probably told everything will be great and goes with it. I read that someone participated in the beta testing, but it obviously wasn't done very thoroughly. Hopefully, they'll get the kinks worked out quickly!

1) Go to www.lotusflow3r.com
2)Click on the ticket to unlock the site
3)In the first slot type 1986. In the second type Los Angeles

Site Unlocked. Now you need to register...

4)Choose a Screen Name and Password. If this isn't working, you need to CLEAR YOUR CACHE. This can be done normally under the options in your browser. I have heard some browsers don't work. FIREFOX does. If you don't have Firefox go to www.firefox.com and DL the browser. Repeat steps 1-4 if neseccary

5)Once your screen name and password are accepted, you'll then go and enter your personal info and pay 77 dollars to get in. You will also get to choose what size T-Shirt you want. (I missed this...but there is a 7 dollar charge for S&H)

Once you are in you have 3 areas to explore...one for each of the albums.Next steps will guide you to where you can download them or listen to them. You navigate to the different "worlds" by dragging your curser around.

Lotusflow3r - Click on the middle world and then once that comes into full view if you click on the lightning above his head, that will bring up the player. From there you have options to download Mp3 or Wav. Also in this area, if you click on the pyramid, you will get to see the Crimson & Clover video.

MPLSound - This is to the right of the site. Once there, click on the bird, who'll plug into the site. The CD disappears and a guitar rises in it's place. Click on the string of the guitar (towards the top) and the player opens up for the album. You can DL mp3 or wav files here. Click the blimp off to the right top of the screen to see a preview of Chocolate Box video.

Bria Valente - Her's is off to the Left of the site. A little more straight forward. Click the "on" button for her player. Same deal as above. The video for her single can be access by clicking on the moon.

The videos are located behind Prince's face in Lotusflow3r land. Once clicked, you are taken past the face to an Orange Glowing Ring and then soon after a globe of videos comes up to pick videos and pictures to choose from.

TIPS and TRICKS -

It is recommended to Download the Mp3's instead of the wav files. They seem to work easier and the wav files come as a .php file and all of the tricks to turn it to a .zip aren't working for me.

Yes the videos are choppy. This could be due to high traffic and there is no work around.

At the top left corner are 3 controls: Symbol take you to your acct info. You can also get tix here. The middle control is for sound and the last gives you full screen access.

Invalid and corrupted files means you didn't fully download them. So much traffic on the site makes this tricky. Go for the MP3's. They are at a great bit rate.

There is also a known issue with closing out and logging back in. Again, clearing caches and cookies seems to work.

So far that's all that seems to be there.

Good Luck! And hopefully this helps.

Hopefully he'll think I'm helping fans find and enjoy the content they want. I fear for the folks who are not affiliated with this site or are just casual fans who want to join his site. Sure, maybe it keeps them out, if that's the intention. That means that we get first dibs on everything. But I think the way he promoted this was so that it was for everyone. And it simply isn't. shrug

Everyone's vids and downloads go through the same PHP file, trust me.

Oh, and if there was some good reason for this, but apparently they think this is what makes it secure. It isn't. I can post links to the MP3 downloads and everyone in the world would be able to DL them without having a subscription.

The guys who built have ZERO competence. ZERO. If Prince is smart, he fires them on the spot, refuses to pay any of their bills, reimburses all his fans who've paid $77, and hires a decent outfit to provide a PROPER website.

Yeah,we wondered how long it would take non-diehards to figure out how to register...of course for us it was a no brainer...but the casual fans?

Wav's are definately preferable as far as quality, but of course require more work and space.

The whole vid thing is a joke! Pausing to buffer doesn't help, increase video size doesn't help...the problem is their upload speed, plain and simple!

Well I assume he is mad at the glitches [like choppy videos and foreign credit cards difficulties] but I thought the mysterious, exploratory aspect of the site [like long code-based login procedure and hard to find offerings and features] were intentional. I took it to be some kind of game.

Personally I enjoyed that side of the experience [although I needed your help with the code, guys:)] But I think it's a nice change from most info on the Internet that we are being spoonfed, all chopped for us like baby food.
Maybe the Net could be a truly more active, learning experience. I thought that was the selling point of the Net initially [as opposed to the passive activity of TV], but it seems it has caught up with the latter:)

In any case, whether one likes it or not, Prince's website stands out from the zillion others on the Net for its exploratory nature - which is in itself no small feat imo.
I see a true innovator/trend setter here - as always.

I think that would create more issues than what he has now. If the people who built it had zero competence, we'd be looking at a white page with words on it.

sigh... Yeah, let's see how you feel when you missed a video because it was added to the globe and then removed later on.

Flo6 said:

Oh for crying out loud, there's nothing to learn here, except that Prince still thinks it's 1999. There's a reason sites don't look like that anymore: it's because they were shit.

Oh, and you're completely mistaken about what the web was meant to be about: it was about disclosing information and being able to link to anything anywhere. It wasn't about stupid games.

It's really not that. If you download one of the flv files and play it in an external media player, you still get the choppy playback. There is a way to cure it though, just close the Lotusflow3r website.

That's right, the site is greedy and uses up your CPU like nothing I've seen. I can barely play an mp3 file in media player while the Lotus site is active. It really is bloated nonsense.

Another thing, today I timed how long it took from log in to getting to one of the videos for playback. Took over 2 minutes! Should be a couple of clicks and a few seconds to navigate to these things.

Maybe you should post those links. I mean, only linking to ILLEGAL sources is forbidden, but this is an official website. And as the stuff is not password protected, we can only assume that Prince wants it to be open access, right? eek biggrin

Reading all this: Have the designers actually ever tried to access the site from an outside computer, or have they simply made something which ran perfectly fine on their local computer and have put it online? eek

Said this on another thread, but will say again here...

Thanks for all the info on this issue.

I've been frustrated as hell about _it_ myself, but knew that the kinks would be discussed and solutions passed along.

I've not been able to enjoy the site, but some of that's just how things are for me...it's a busy week.

Thanks again ya'll!

The experience is not the best. Maybe it's your browser? Maybe try downloading it again? I'd do MP3 as it's a smaller DL and most seem to not have trouble opening it up.

Wish I could help more, but this is where i get stuck.

I have a suggestion for the first post (or perhaps a new thread) - it would be nice if it was edited and maintained to have a list of the music and videos on the site, perhaps with the date new material was added or discovered. That way when new material is added, there's 1 place to look to find out.

it always does this. but it should also pop up a file open or save cue like anything else you dl off the internet. ignore the navigation cancelled thing, it seems to just be a sloppy bug. you should be getting your standard "save file" thing along with it.
