Videos are all choppy.

Don't know why, anyone help? My system is more than fast enough but I formatted recently so I'm worried that I might not have the right codecs.

Anyone?

You're not the only one who is having this issue. Other orgers and myself are having the same issues with the videos not playing correctly. Probably because of all of the traffic on the server.

Gosh, I hope not. Hopefully, it will be a temporary glitch that will get fixed.

Unfortunately, no matter what browser I use, I get this issue, and did so as well in the Beta version of the site.

When I minimise the browser, the sound works fine.

All suggests to me it's a memory and internet speed issue. When I tried the Beta site on the University computers, it worked fine.
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

I can forgive "choppiness" during a heavily trafficked first night, but what I can't forgive is what looks like videos that are far below even YouTube in terms of quality, and the inability as a member to download said videos.

What would be so hard about having videos available in higher quality? Maybe Quicktime format (either .mov or .mp4, encoded in H.264)? I would have expected at the very least to be able to download HD versions of the videos for Crimson & Clover and Chocolate Box at launch.

If high quality video is not a part of the plan for this site, I'd really like to have know it before dropping $77.

As it stands, it looks suspiciously like he's keeping the online video quality low so that even if someone is able to somehow download the videos, they're not going to get much use out of them.

I really like the CDs I was able to download, and the new music is fantastic for the most part. I don't have a problem with that. And I'm not even asking him to give everything away like Trent Reznor is doing over at the NIN site (although it's hard not to be a little jealous of how he views his fan community). I guess I was just hoping for some more content at launch - maybe a video or two. But something tells me that we are not likely to see any more downloadable content AT ALL for our $77 membership fee. That fee is probably only going to allow us the ACCESS to the content. Anything else that is downloadable will require an additional purchase. I would bet the purple house that I'm right.

Prove me wrong, Prince.

"Choppiness" is not the only issue. Check the resources the site is using on your processor(s) (I have 2 of them). When I'm connected and surfing the site, it's up to 85% usage. That's way WAY too high for an internet site. Clearly the person who wrote this needs to review the programming. Not everyone has xeon processors or server grade computers. It's not Crysis for f$#cks sake! We should have a better user experience.

I thought I had problems with my pc when viewing the vids, or I thought that it's the traffic that is causing the problems, but it's the site itself that is sucking the pc's performance.

The way they were bragging about this site in the months running up to launch, you'd think the live videos were going to be HD with audiophile-quality sound. But they are really shit. And we can't even download them for our $$? Seriously?

The FLV files look much better now that I downloaded and saved them. So it's some sort of site issue.

I wasn't expecting 1080p quicktime files, but those are just shit. The choppyness is a speed issue, but the actual flash files are quite poor. There is no excuse for that in this day and age. Have a look at the Watchmen site, or any other large movie site.

Crap!

I would agree that the video that these are certainly not the super high quality videos I would hope for but have you tried downloading them onto your computer? Makes the quality much better... imo.

Not sure that you'll be allowed to download the flv files. Not sure that anyone can suggest that there are programs out there that allow you to download these files. It's a touchy issue that you'll understand may cause some outrage in the Prince camp. Having said that, I think that viewing the files "offline" would be a better experience than viewing some "online". Seems though that the files aren't the greatest of quality of what we can expect of someone who "owns" them and can upload topnotch vidz.

I get choppiness too. But to be fair, I've had choppiness on youtube and other vid streaming sites as well. Not sure why this happens. But Im guessing it's a Vista thing. Hands up how many people get this on WinXP or Macs...?

It stops chopping for me when I click full screen mode before pressing play.

I would agree. Not as good as they should have looked, probably, but much better than they look online.

I'm feeling a bit better. It helps that the new music is so good - that takes the sting out of any disappointment I may have originally had.

I'm even diggin' Elix3r.

So as I look at it, we got about $30 worth of music and for the other $47, we got a nice quality encode of the Crimson & Clover video, passable encodes of a bunch of other videos, and a promise of more to come throughout the year.

Already a couple of steps ahead of NPGMC as far as I'm concerned. Funny what a little sleep and reflection will do for you.

In one of the other threads last night, a few people said they solved the problem by going into full screen mode. I haven't had a chance to try it yet though.

Hi Karryflower.

The videos stop chopping for me, too, when I go to fullscreen. smile

Was just about to suggest that as well.

I probably cleaned out every video up there last night and have no problem with the quality of the FLVs. Once ripped.... they are excellent quality. Plus I'm not taking any chances of certain things no longer being available. I'm gonna get my money's worth one way or another. razz

Any half azzed Google search with of Firefox and Download will point anyone in the right direction of how to do it.

I think the site may just be a tad too flash intensive for most people's system. Hence when you play the vids in full screen and they are the only visuals your system has to process... they run much smoother.

Regarding the choppy videos. I have noticed that if you use the Mozilla Firefox browser and set the video size to full screen - the choppiness goes away

When the videos are set to their normal size they are extremely choppy and unviewable.

Yeah, I just started ripping the FLV files and viewing them on my computer instead. Much better option.

Many people blamed the choppiness on high traffic, but it's definitely not the case. I downloaded those albums simultaneously at well over 400k/s each, so there is plenty of bandwidth.

But that site is a HUGGEEE resource hog.

I have a pretty fast computer so didn't notice the choppiness. I have a quad core intel processor, 4 gigs of high performance ram and an Nvidia 8800 video card. But then when I started doing some other stuff I heard some chopping on a video (sacrifice of victor). So I looked it up and my firefox alone was using nearly 600 MB of memory, and my processor performance was at over 50% steadily.

In comparison, firefox on prince.org uses 57 MB of memory and my CPU usage has been hovering between 0% and 2%. Yes. 0% and 2%.

So long story short, if you don't have a good computer, you won't get a smooth run out of lotusflow3r.

Oh, and incidentally, Sacrifice of Victor?! The Whole thing?! UNCENSORED!? Awesome.
