An explaination here (prince.org) and on HQ why Croke Park was cancelled
Link: http://74.125.77.132/sear...clnk&gl=uk Scroll 2 the member invaderjon post (Reply #355 posted 06/16/08 2:54am) Link: http://prince.org/msg/12/272982?&pg=12 An agency were booked to liaise with local promoters and dates were tentatively lined up, however it turns out there was a scheduling conflict between the two agents who book events for Prince and he could not commit to the tour and asked sales to stop.
Whilst the promoters for Milan, Denmark and Holland respected that request, it seems that the local promoter in Dublin, MCD, went ahead and put tickets on sale in the hope that this could force Prince's hand into playing the gig. Prince subsequently was faced with another commitment and again requested that Dublin be taken off sale. In fact once it was known that the tour was not going ahead, we ourselves sent some pretty blunt messages to NPG base camp pointing out what was best for the fans. It should be made clear that Prince himself took a great deal of interest in stopping sales, however we were informed that MCD did not take this step.Once it became very clear that the whole Dublin situation was a mess, Prince tried to look at moving things around in order to save the date, however it proved logistically impossible.
More links: http://www.rte.ie/arts/20...rince.html http://www.examiner.ie/st...eygb/rss2/ From the examiner: While no written contract existed, MCD say this email made it "abundantly clear" a contract was entered into
MCD said that all the tickets were refunded.
All anyone else can do is speculate - Only those that where involved knows the truth... All i know is I received a refund at the time very easily and if memory serves me right others did as well. Concerts cancel for whatever reasons they are outside our control. I personally see no point harping on about it especially when we don’t know the larger picture at who exactly is to blame. In every day life I find if I expect too much I always get disappointed so I will patiently wait to see what the new rollercoaster is like with no expectations. . [Edited 3/23/09 9:42am]

Thanks for posting that info. I thought I remembered reading it was the promoter's fault and that HQ was pretty much was telling people it wouldn't be happening.

It shouldn't be considered "bullying" or "snobbery" if fans are happy to be a part of something that their favorite artist is doing. If it's a direct case of one fan or fans going after someone for not joining, then that makes sense but to assusme that that's going to happen is silly. No one knows what'll happen tomorrow until tomorrow gets here but hopefully that won't happen. I'm not going to rub it in after I join tomorrow night cause it's wrong.
With that said, the same kind of "snobbery" and "bullying" can happen with fans who don't join once they find out that there isn't as much content as they think there should be. They could easily point fingers and say "Y'all got robbed " or say "suckers". It's a 2-way street with this subject IMHO. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I personally loved these benefits and would love it if the lotusflower site replicates this type of thing. It was also a bonus not to have to pay rip off Ticketmaster fees. I think you could only get 2 as well. You picked up your tix at the venue the same way you would if you used Ticket Master, with ID and CC you used to purchase. I didn't have to go right into the show when I got my tix, I believe they were available day of and you didn't have a clue where you were sitting until you got them. PEJ - the difference is that he has played Ireland once since 1995. And he's doing 6 gigs next week in LA - so you could forgive the odd cancelled show. We're not so lucky.

I'm sure Prince wanted to play that show with all of his heart and I'm sure he will play there again one day. When it comes to promoters and legalities I can understand why he couldn't make a public statement. If people got their money refunded then they should be happy and not complain but if they didn't then don't support the artist that jacked you ever again! To Sir, with Love
