$77 is not much, my wife and I are both working, all praises due to The Most High and we have until the end of the month to get it together. I feel very optimistic about the site and the new albums.

Guys, it is just supply and demand. If you don't value access to possible streaming music, concerts, videos at $77 then don't shell out the money. The NPGMusiclub was more than worth the money that we paid. I made that money back just in Ticketmaster fees I didn't have to pay to go to his concerts. Oh, and we also got the best seats in the house. I'm not expecting 10 albums worth of previously unreleased music, but if he tours, I'm gonna take advantage of the pre-sales and that alone makes it worth $77.

well that's because they won't be lol the vault material or other new mp3
files of recent/brand new material will be up for sale on the site if they
are ever released at all.

no one strictly said all this stuff will come for free.

the way i read that quote, we might expect a streaming live concert at some
future date (probably a one off thing) and lots of streaming footage from
older concerts and videos.

everything beyond that will appear in time, over the course of the year or
even next year and will be "outside" of the initial membership fee. so you
have access to the site but exclusive content will still have to be dished
out for.

which makes sense.

it's slightly alarming that people are now already thinking they might get
10 albums of unreleased material for their membership fee

falloff

Thinking they'd actually get them at all, after all the carrot dangling, baiting and switching Prince has done over the years, alarms me. In that battered woman returning to her abuser after he says he'll never do it again for the umpteenth time, kind of way. neutral

Well guys. He is sitting on a lot of unreleased old music. I doubt 10 cds for the $77 either but I believe he will have to offer something more from the Vault to entice a lot of people to join! How many fans will join up if they can get the same thing for $12 at Target on cd?..and they prefer cds!

Maybe 4-5 cds FLACS/High bit rate Mp3 albums from the Vault? With the option to purchase more music as downloads cds in the future? I honestly could see something like that happening.

It's not like he is getting any younger and 10-12 years he will be in his 60s! Will he still wanna go on big tours then??? Who knows. It's Prince but it seems like if he wanted us to hear any of the Vault material that was saved up over the years - the Time would be now or very soon. This is what the club was used for in the past to unload some of the music he stashed over the years. We will see.

I find it difficult to believe any artist would release ten albums of unreleased songs along with live broadcasts, video documentaries, archive concerts - not to mention three new albums - for $77. I'm just judging by precident and past experience here. If these compilations exist, we'll have to pay. And pay I probably will. I agree, and here is why. Prince is of the belief that his only competition is himself in the past. As blinkered as it is, Prince believes he has no equal in modern music. To release vault material would be to release a monster on himself - it would produce damning evidence to the popular claim that Prince was 'better' way back when. Once this legendary material is out there in the public domain the question arises 'what more does Prince actually have to offer?' - another Mr Goodnight? That great body of unreleased work we all yearn to one day own in pristine sound quality is Prince's dangling carrot for us bunch of NPG donkeys. We will never get it. Just pay your 77 sheets and serve your time.

here's food 4 thought: it's easy 2 assume that past material would come from vault items circa 80's..but what if these r vault items that come from 1999 and onward..cause no one truly knows anymore what songs were left off projects that have come since 1999. these could b totally new songs that NO ONE knows about rather than what u already heard and have
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Why you gotta be like that? Try a little optimism. If it delivers what it promises great. If it doesn't well shame on Prince. Either buy it or don't. We all have a choice to purchase or not.

this all of course seems like the NPG music club and we all remember around the musicology time, we did get things like CNOTE,Chocalate Invasion etc...so Prince has done things like this, but with him its all about FOLLOW THROUGH, i think now its just a no-brainer, the material is there, you own the tracks that are buried in the vault, so if Prince can get 50-100,000 members for $77 a pop, its just all profit that can be turned into a tour or whatever. I mean he knows that this is beyond charts, and i hope the fans REALIZE this too, so dont bitch when the album doesnt "chart" high, or have momentum, Prince has a loyal following and support, just like anyone else and that is his "chart".

Well in hearing what is stored from the past for the most part, its not like some gems that are gonna shatter the earth, there meaning is more WITH US, not anyone else. The public in mass is not going to hear this stuff for the most part, its going to be the small/loyal group that Prince has. Sure there are the "empty Rooms" and gems in there, but who knows what Prince will allow to be set free. Knowing him he will still hold back what HE feels is his best unreleased stuff. The claims of PRINCE was better back then has now become OUR CHANT and no one elses, we are the ones that have created this fable that the Vault holds the "real prince", and yes he has contributed to the mystique of it, but for the most part, its just tracks laying around, never put out, from times when WE all thought prince could do NO wrong, and honestly as i listen to many Vault tracks, one word comes to mind.....Overrated.

Disclaimer: I'm not even gonna go there about the Prince all-tuba record comment.

What Prince has to do with his new site, if he really wants it to work, is give up total creative control. He's had it for long enough and has probably released as many albums as when he was signed to Warners - there's such a thing as moderation, and maybe he's had control for long enough that he can manage to let go of it a little, and not be as sensitive as he's always been.

I would be willing to fork over the case for some boots I've seen (and we will never know just what boots are put out there by fans, and what boots are put out there by Prince himself), and I would think that certain live performances from concert specials (Prince's Hit-n-Run tours, both of them) would be fair game for people to expect to be able to buy. But this means that he has to be cool with fans liking it when he talked about sex and cursing.

In short, what Prince has to do with his new site, if he really wants it to work and not be just another Purple Folly, is be reasonable. It's one thing to stand for your principles, but sometimes it's worth saying (and repeating) - "Get over yourself!"

Besides the music the best thing that came out of the NPGMC was the early access to tickets, premium seating, and soundchecks. If he brings that back I don't give a damn if he shows old episodes of the Smurf's..I'm paying!

The Detroit soundcheck alone was worth the $100 membership fee. That is one of my greatest concert experiences ever.

Ditto, Oslo Konserthus in Norway with soundcheck was worth every $ spendt. And to be surprised with a raw version of "hole lotta love" where the guitar effects played perfect with the arenas auqustics, would also alone be worth 100$....lol

About the Valuts... if we do an fearly estemate of productivity over the years, its not bad to suggest 2 - 3 songs pr week. He did alot of sessions, where multiple songs came out every time, and some times he was on the road, and could not compose that mutch... but 2 - 3 pr week is fairly good. That means, if we start counting from around 76, and end in 08, we get 3300 - 5000 songs as an estemate. So 5000 can be possible smile

Also, cant wait if there in the future actualy will be Vip conserts, with online polls where we vote for the songs we vanna hear biggrin This is awsome forsights smile Power of attraction states we need to visualize it, to get it wink Not judging it down before it even beginns.

I enjoyed NPGMC. I got a ticket for cheaper than I ever could have through ticketmaster and I was in the fifth row.

I agree with a prior post that people should not be talking about what may or may not be available like 10 cds.
Even the $77 price is still speculation. I am just like everyone else I am thinking 10 cds/ $77 would be??? Hey maybe there wont be any charge biggrin

I am curious about Prince recording all his performances I would like to get those and even the soundboards too.
I just hope Prince sticks with the site regardless. Also I hope we get the chance to purchase Slaughterhouse and Chocolate Invasion again since I was too slow to buy them earlier.

$6.50 from my monthly entertainment funds.....

Hmm.. Prince's site or a bucket of popcorn at the movies.... hard choice.

Good point. People complain about purchasing art which could impact their lives and go into a Starbucks and pay $4.00 for a frappachino.

it won't happen

the streaming concerts will happen maybe 4 times in one year if you are lucky. the unreleased music is the bait to get you there. this guy really shouldn't play with the fans by saying that...now even if Prince gives you a few unreleased gems people will bitch about not getting 10 albums worth...

the moral of the story is, wait until you see feedback from members on here before you plunk down $77 so you actually know what you are in for.

Prince has almost always been all talk with releasing multiple albums a year. He also very rarely releases anything recorded more than a few years ago....I guess the old stuff sounds stale to him even if we haven't heard it.

He only wanted to release four or five albums a year back when WB wouldn't let him. Once he was free to do so, he no longer wanted to and probably won't now.

And the NPG Music Club was supposed to be a LIFETIME membership and I'm still alive the last time I checked. So he is changing the name of it...I still should have my membership.

It depends upon what you like. I'm a fan of Prince Music. So if the site provides a good amount of unreleased music I'm in.

The people that go to Starbucks go and pay for coffee. They know what they are purchasing and paying. Now if Starbucks had a cover charge and you didn't know if you were getting coffee or a cupcake and you wanted coffee... Would you pay the cover charge???
