I didn´t really like Chocolate Box the first time I heard it but I DO like this instrumental Disco Jellyfish song. The background music is kinda interesting, too.

Maybe the cassettes have a symbolic, nostalgic meaning, just like the PR screenshot on the TC screen. Kind of like going back to certain elements of the 80s.

Okay... let me put it this way. When you own several cars, a mansion or two, a recording studio complex and dozens of custom keyboards and guitars, you should be able to afford web designers that can actually come up with a site that works in most browsers. After "playing a tape" I can't get access to another one without restarting the browser. The background animations introduce gaps to the music if you just happen to have any other processes running in the background. How about some text and a few relevant images, you know, giving people a proper website? How hard can it be? So yes, it definitely reminds of the "Interactive" CD-ROM from 1994 in terms of design and functionality.

website works just fine with vista and my IExplorer ... maybe it's just not designed for older/slower computers
[Edited 2/1/09 5:08am]

Yes, I'm sure it works with Vista and IE. But that's hardly what web design is about. The fact that the tape images just bounce in the air after the fist play and then refuse to deliver any sound on other browsers has nothing to do with a computer being old or slower. The point is: if you can't add a functional "play" button for the streaming of files on your own website, there's something seriously wrong. Sure, the tape images should easily serve the same function as well, but basically what they are now is just a "play button" that doesn't even work. There's a reason why most sensible folks these days shun away from flash / etc. -based sites.

But let's just see what appears there next.

lol I thought disco jelly fish was about to be chocolate box part two. I still like it and can see myself dancing to it for exercise. Another Boy is definitely a chill time and shower jam. Colonized Mind is still growing on me. It just reminds me of something else but I can't put my finger on it. I'm digging the animations, though. I dunno how many times Imma click on that ticket just to see it move..

I wanna know what's behind that smoke, though. eek *tapping screen* hellooo...

Its all very similar to the "undreground" days after the name change. When i saw that TV screen i thought it was going to have some sort of "beautiful experience" type film showing on it. I like the vibe that Prince is once again doing things without a label, maybe just getting distribution from a lone retailer, which is fine with me, because his deal with "Redline" entertainment back in 2001 brought "the rainbow children" and was an exclusive to Best Buy companies at the time. People seem to forget that Prince was one of the first to do exclusives and side deals.

Not that it's super significant, but I wonder if it's his handwriting on the tapes [the names of the songs]... just curious:)

What do you all think, has anybody seen his handwriting, does it look like this? [I know there's handwritten text on some album covers but no time to do all this homework:)..

I've had Disco Jellyfish on all morning, and before that the sinister cloud music all night, slept with it, love it!

But lyrics-wise, of all the latest output, it's Colonized Mind that wins for me. So happy that it's the one he chose to post!

Agreed 10000%. Sometimes I feel like I am the only one that appreciates what Prince does for us. And if those other people don't appreciate then why do they still listen to this man? Better yet, why are they STILL on this site? Thanks for pointing that out, man.

Seriously, they can kill you.

Better take charge, and be responsible for our own actions & reactions.
No one but ourselves are responsible for the way we are reacting to events on here.

Well, he did say the new music would be released "just after the holidays", so Prince is responsible for the high expectations.

I also expected a bit more from the site, but I'm sure we're gonna have some new stuff there in another few weeks.

I'm guessing the tape "malfunctions" are something to do with security. The site seems to be trying to prevent caching of the mp3 files to make it harder to access them other than through the site's player.

While we're talking "expectations" who put the bar up there?

Which of the "complainers" posted the site claiming "January 2009 An Entirely New Galaxy Awaits. LISTEN WATCH BUY"?

Exactly. For me, all I ask is for a little honestly. That isn't honestly. If the site can't be up in time, or the music isn't finish.. no big deal, but could someone not modify the overall message that is perceived at the site?

Too much to ask i guess.

I personally think Prince 'overplayed his hand' a bit with the words 'Coming to you January 2009' and 'a new galaxy awaits'.

The fact that we now 'just' have some samples of new songs and a new 'ticket' tells me, that he probably didnt succeed in letting things starting to roll at the time he hoped for. That means:
- Reaching agreements with some big retailers to sell his new albums
- Getting the website functioning as it should be (with what it more or less 'promised').

In that sense it 'fits in' the very clumsily way he seems to be promoting himself since he left Warner: promising new material that never gets released, starting a website that seems promising at first, and then turns black suddenly, releasing new albums without proper single releases, etc.

Anyone who tells me Prince is a 'smart businessman' is fooling himself. Sure, he might be free to do what he chooses, but the way he has promoted his music since he left Warner is at least very incohesive and bordering on the amateuristic.

We die-hard fams seem to get used to it, but you have any idea how it appears to the people who are just casually interested in him?

Bitch, whine, complain and bitch some more.

Sit back... relax... and just chill. Some of you need to stop building up your own expectations so high and them blaming some one else when those expectations aren't met.

Just as I stated weeks ago in the original new site thread.... we have not seen the final product.

Apparently I was dead on after people complained about the 'professionalism' of Lotusflow3r when i said we were looking at a 'place holder'. A place holder which allowed the developers to run certain test.... esp in regards to the music. We literally saw them doing different things. They seamed to really focus on making the music hard to rip.

If people would just listen to the right sources, and quit complaining about the validity of these sources.... we were informed that things fell behind schedule and not to expect the full site. But in preference of wanting something to bitch about... you ignored these warnings.

Ok, he is behind schedule. But where do you all see the words 'promise' on his website?? Even figuratively speaking, I don't see it.

"Watch, Buy, Listen", and January 2009, and some music... these are the things that artists/people in the entertainment business throw at us/their audience to raise interest, it's not God's word or carved in stone. I didn't take them to be so...

As for his self-promoting techniques, one has to admit that they are unique. And in this cut-throat competitive business, there's nothing like standing out imo.

(Note: While I still appreciate the musical genius & talent 4 which Prince is capable of & will most likely always B a fan of the music until the day I pass, I still feel the need 2 express my 2 cents about the current state of things! Peace!)

... in response to the new site as it stands now

Joy in Repetition!

2009 & the illusion continues! Do U remember when he teased U with promises of the 'Black Album' only 2 withhold it and then years later make retribution like a delinquent father finally having 2 pay child support. Or perhaps U saw the future with UR very own 'Crystal Ball' b-ing brought 2 UR door only 2 have it delivered 2 strangers in public places 1st. Or may b U even thought that finally some 1 knew what the words 'lifetime membership' meant when U joined the 'Music Club' only 2 have the door slammed on UR foot.

Yet once again, we have been bamboozled, hoodwinked, took! Every 1 of us is just another sucker left holding the bag, the 'empty bag' that is! But then, who here was really surprised by the revelation that just b-cause the words were spoken, that they would indeed b-come a reality? Were U 'con'vinced this time would B different like me? Then U and I were 'con'ned 2gether again. And as always 'we' seem 2 get a certain amount of joy in repetition that comes with b-ing a fam of the man, the music and the legend.

But alas here is hoping he will have me eating my words soon, this time...
