Crimson Clover and Here I come are just great songs! I knew one day he would directly put Jimi in there somewhere and HOTDAMN, he did it! Here I come is a very very commercial song, very SADE, like he said, that song out of the 3 will get the most airplay if any of them do. I love how he has a scene from Purple Rain on an old TV set, I wonder if he's directly or indrectly saying that that era is over with like he did on the album Come where he put his birth and death dates on there (for business reason), is he saying f the record Co.s? I'm glad that he has this new site up. I don't like that other song too much, he needs to put that Lynn drum to rest in my opinion. He used it on Rave and it didn't work. Overall I love this new site though.

Where do you see the Rock of Gibraltar?

look 2 the right of Prince and u will see 2 rocks, they r the rock of gibralter(look Rock of Gibralter and u will b convinced)coincidentaly 2 the left are the pyramids, very spiritual/symbolic artwork.

The Rock of Gibraltar is not an island. The Straits of Gibraltar are not islands either. The Rock of Gibraltar sits on a a peninsula, back from the ocean. The African side is also a peninsula. So there is nothing to obviously suggest the Rock of Gibraltar . . .

Tommy James and the Shondells (1968)

Still a better version than Prince's

It's not an island. It sits in a peninsula. It's small enough that you should have known that.
It's also a British military garrison so I'm sure any tourism is limited. You can see the Rock from the Spanish side also.

See also: Rock of Gibraltar

The territory covers 6.843 square kilometres (2.642 sq mi). It shares a 1.2 km (0.75 mi) land border with Spain.
On the Spanish side is the town La Línea de la Concepción, a municipality of Cádiz province. The part of Cádiz province next to Gibraltar is called Campo de Gibraltar, literally Gibraltar Countryside. The shoreline measures 12 km (7.5 mi) in length. There are two coasts (sides) of Gibraltar – the East Side, which contains the settlements of Sandy Bay and Catalan Bay, and the West Side, where the vast majority of the population lives.

Having negligible natural resources and few natural freshwater resources, limited to natural wells in the north, until recently Gibraltar used large concrete or natural rock water catchments to collect water. Fresh water from the boreholes is supplemented by two desalination plants: a reverse osmosis plant, constructed in a tunnel within the rock, and a multi-stage flash distillation plant at North Mole.[29]

Gibraltar is one of the most densely populated territories in the world, with approximately
4,290 inhabitants per square kilometre (11,100 /sq mi). The growing demand for space is being increasingly met by land reclamation; reclaimed land currently comprises approximately one tenth of the territory's total area.

The Rock itself is made of limestone and is 426 metres (1,396 ft) high. It contains many tunnelled roads, most of which are operated by the military and closed to the public.

That doesn't answer the question. All that says is that not ALL the reviews were glowing. It doesn't explain the critics that gave it glowing reviews although I did see your remarks about critics later reassessments and Prince getting a ride on his laurels as it were.

Location, location, location.

On a fansite, do you think critics hold much sway?
I may never listen to 'Planet Earth' intentionally again but after buying the other 30, 40 , 50 whatever, why break the chain. And it's Prince, so there's usually something interesting except when he's an utter bore as with 'Planet Earth'.

That would be affirmative.

Do a simple google of 'reviews Prince planet earth' and... well.. lets just say that it got its fair share of good reviews from critics.... and from people who bought it.

And I'm not even going to mention 3121 or Musicolgy... both averaged higher ratings than Planet Earth.

The music buying public in general isn't buying him in mass numbers anymore for a myriad of possible reasons... not excluding lack of radio play and his own reluctance to release the best music on his albums asa singles. But that's another debate.

We all have opinions... which is fine. But in the midst of a new website and new potential albums..... any perceived negativity right now will be viewed like a hunk of bloody meat in a pool of sharks desperate for thier next meal..... the music in this case.

wacky

wow, I feel honored, and perhaps a little creeped out you have to lash out your anger towards someone who doesn't feel the same away about the music that you obviously enjoy. It is both sad and interesting.

What I dislike, and appreciate in music must be entirely on a different level than you.

It is stated very well on this site. This is a discussion forum. I will keep giving negative comments towards the music if it sucks. Don't worry about that my friend. I find you purple kool aid drinkers hilarious and it frankly makes me laugh out loud to see you get so damn choked up over someone else feeling so differently than you.

Now, get back in your stable and don't come out till we tell you to.

Oops I have upset you. really sorry about that.

I'm (like you) far from enjoying everything prince does : I hate PE, Musicology, found 60% of 3121 pretty decent and loved TRC. But contrary to you I do not piss on someone I have appreciated so much for the last 25 years just because his last outputs are not as good as his past work.

You act like if only your opinion and taste mattered in a very arrogant way. If you think a tune sucks then it surely sucks for real, doesn't it !

I know you're looking forward to invading each thread with your negative reviews of next Prince's outputs but do not get too frustrated, the music will be available soon and I'm sure you'll be delighted to piss on nearly everything.

I think prince has missed out on the fact that sade has continued to perform and record. I dont think the purple rain image is anything other than a metaphor for watching videos the tv is obviously going to be the click through or represents the future click thru for watching videos. the pyramids are interesting tho i think we are seeing a more mystical era with prince again he seems to be leaving the hard core zealous jw stuff behind, musically at least and the imagery is opposed to that religion. He seems to be referring back to his earlier yearning towards eygpt and GOLD plus the choice of title for the album and site is interesting, thats following his idea with 3121 to name the site after the album.

i am confused however by him using mplsound.com to load the songs then retract the site very odd. and to have a facebook group called that which notified us of the songs etc.

it appeared almost as tho he launched it himself and then decided to get a couple of web designers to knock up a flash image and relaunch the site under its new name or perhaps the name of the second album and yet the songs from mplsound are playing on lotusflow3r. or he liked the imagery and renamed it - i dont know its all very, very ..uuummm.. well - Prince.

oh yes i forgot to add that the images to me appear to be a representation of 'time' which is also odd for our recent prince who openly rejected time and its passing.

the two stones are possibly the two tablets of the ten commandments, you also have two pyramids, marking a moment in time of the world and the city scape is to represent the modern world.

the stones could also be the designers idea and a representation of the beginning of the earth. its interesting he's still using his image as a deity figure given hes a jw.

i get a feel that maybe prince has finally moved on from his bad karma days and is entering a more fulfilled era - shit i sound like a tarot reader lol

Blimey! Moistness, pissing! This thread really has it all doesn't it!? And who said Prince doesn't attract perverts!

Right, I'm off to staple some bin-liners to the bed and give the missus a right good soaking.

On topic though... so we have Prince in a sphere of some kind, almost Jimi-like in the use of colours and hippyness, the Rock(s) of Gibraltar, leafy pyramids (or are they just prisms? I mean one of the most iconic albums of our time was a prism.) and the ocean falling away. Below that we have a barren outcrop of earth upon which are placed an old telly and a stereo (perhaps). Maybe those are ticket stubs lying there too. Oh I forgot to mention space, blackness, a city (Minneapolis apparently) and Defender.

Wonder if his eyes are obscured for any particular reason? Or could it just be that it's a picture of things with no meaning whatsoever?

If only Imago and Dreamy could give us some deeper insight... not sure who's critique would make me grin the most wink
