Giovanni777 said: I hear what you're saying, but I think the issue is more like what Prince decides 2 hold back, and what he releases. He's always released the best stuff when he just doesn't care what folks will think, and releases quickly. He has definitely layed down some Funk in recent times. What about "The Work" and "Chelsea Rodgers"? His drumming, bass guitar, and guitar R right out there in the mix, with not 2 many effects... just STOMPIN'. Also... what about the stuff he's layed down, but held back? Give me a break. What he decides to hold back? Please. There's not some golden fleece of funk that Prince is keeping and just waiting to drop when he thinks his subjects are ready for it. Prince has all but run out of ideas. The well is dry. The only thing his music provides now is comedy. A 50 year old who's been married twice singing about "Forever" with the deft poetic touch of a 15 year old? Hilarious. The problem with Prince is he has no filter and assumes the crap he records is worth listening to. As if he's trying to tease people with sub-par music that sounds like it was made by some love sick 15 year old or a college freshman who just took his first political science course only so that he can eventually release a masterpiece and let us all know he was just 'testing us.' I'll grant that Chelsea Rodgers was a good recent track but it's also one of maybe 4 or 5 in the past decade that are worth keeping. As far as The Work, no thanks. It's a pathetic attempt at JB funk. It's like a six year old dressing up in their mother's clothes and expecting the same respect given to the owner. And as far as John Blackwell goes, I'd not be surprised to find out this was the Controversy Part II track. And if it wasn't, I'm guessing it sounds about as fresh as this recent piece of filler. Do you honestly think Blackwell isn't going to praise a current employer? I also love his babble about releasing music. He's still harping on the same moronic things he was back in the early 90's. A reason he'll have to release his new cd through uncoventional means isn't because he wants to, but he has to. No record company is exactly dying to get Prince on their roster. What for? He hasn't had a hit single in what, 20 years? He's a greatest hits act now and until the end of his days. No hard feelings.

Since when art has to simulate reality/real life?
If all art did, we would be all bored to death on this PE. Why is the site just black now?

The song that is playing in the black box is very nice.
This song is very (catchy)the progression is sweet and come along kind of song. I even sang it about I don't seven times now...and it aint even my stuff. I felt like "remember those james dean movies with the old train track sound with the wheels on the train tracks" was in it. And at the end some cool horns (you know coronetish with some flash armstrong trumpets at the ending building then...) just the acoustic... Like "what can I do ... pause... now". oh well, just speaking how I feel ... And I love the song... SOOOOO whoever wrote it or is doing it... Nice Song (VERY nice) song. so...(it's just a... feels like>>> "what can I do... now"). Take care, QuietSeven

(There'll Never B) Another Like Me:
The first 20 seconds were great with the intro but then it turns into a song that sounds like New Edition / Bobby Brown from the 1980's... ugh!!!

The more I listen to this song, the more it sounds like "Jukebox with a Heartbeat". This could really be a 2001 outtake.
I still love it, though. [Edited 12/21/08 23:15pm] **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

funksterr said: Giovanni777 said: OK, so everything I said in the original thread http://prince.org/msg/7/291927 was on point, then...
It's a nice, light, pop-like groove... I still say this can not possibly be what JB was talking about, when he used "Controversy" as a comparison. "Controversy" is hard, fat, throbbing FUNK... But don't worry folks... Prince has PLENTY of Funk up his sleeve 2 come. Meanwhile, I really dig the radio songs... "Colonized Mind" is the BOMB. LOVE his vocal in that one. PEACE. [Edited 12/19/08 6:44am] 'Colonized Mind' is hot. It's a step in the right direction. It's a well written, professional piece of music. The music touches you, the vocal line touches you, the lyrics are fresh and new. It could be a classic, I'm not sure yet. The thing that holds it back for me is that it should of been about a girl. You know how Prince did the 'Purple House' song on the Rave DVD? Give people sonething they can relate to, something they can cry too! That's what I want from Prince. Right now I can only appreciate CM intellectually. Maybe I need to play it a few more times. But still it's the best musical piece he has released in a long long time. Amen. What a great track. My favorite release in the past decade for sure. If it breaks when it bends, you better not put it in.
